  • After a tour in Sarlat, we decided to venture to Eyzies in order to enjoy the view and to finally see this mysterious statue of prehistoric man. Luckily, we arrived 30 minutes before the close of entries. Warm and very rewarding: the info on different rooms and pamphlets are given upon entry. Taken a little by the time, we traveled the halls without lingering too. However, a few small nuggets jumped in our eyes: reconstructions of prehistoric rock paintings detailed and explained, the amazing tools used at the time, and so on. The visit is more or less well marked, better look at the guide given to the entrance in case of doubt. For children, a dedicated area allows them to better understand the history of a simplified and more educational way: videos, workshop to touch,... The point of visit is absolutely not to be missed: the view of Eyzies and the magnificent rocks eroded by the time! All the way up, at the end of the tour, possibility to go on the "roof" and contemplate the Rocky structures and landscapes out of sight. Good to know: free Museum some days a month and every day for some age groups (-26).

  • New buildings, very well kept, the Museum is interesting, but seems a bit empty. Certainly that it will expand in the coming years.

  • Impossible to enter with a small knife Switzerland... we asked if we could leave it at the entrance, but it was declined. We could therefore not return! Home deplorable!

  • Not very English friendly. Loads of info. Free under 25
  • A good place to start your tour of the region. The Musée national de Préhistoire will help bring the time line of habitation, development and use of tools and of course the artwork into perspective.... you won't get this at the different sites. Downside is two-fold: Translations for non-fluent French speakers are incomplete and lousy and the collection seems at times more a depot. Kids under 23 (!) are free and entrance for adults is acceptable at 8euro so take the time and appreciate the upsides.
  • Must see - from the museum you can walk underneath the pre-historic caves and the medieval village. The whole village of Les Eyzies is astounding.
  • Very interesting, too bad we had only 2 hrs.
  • A huge collection of prehistoric objects on multiple levels. Presentations are nice and knowledgeable. The Museum is well organized. A playful and learning area is intended for children. The whole day is not sufficient to see all the objects one by one. The upper part of the Museum allows access to the corniche hence one has a beautiful view of the Vézère Valley. Practical info: free the first Sunday of the month. Photos without flash allowed.
