#4 of 41 in Parks in Loire Valley
Gallivant with your children in the realm of faeries at Chateau du Rivau, an authentic medieval fortress surrounded by 14 gardens adorned with 450 varieties of fragrant roses. A popular tourist attraction today, the rich history of this castle includes a visit by Joan of Arc. Situated only ten minutes from the town of Chinon, the castle, the stables, and the six hectare (14.8 acre) park combine botany, history, art, and magic. Admire the sculptures on the outdoor grounds, visit the garden restaurant, or enjoy a number of medieval themed activities. An on-site flower bar in the garden serves drinks made from herbs and flowers inspired by the ancients. • Actually the façade of the Castle, the garden so that a part of the gardens are beautiful and the person at the reception (September 2017) really very very nice (where an increase in my note also) but otherwise... personally nothing to do with the prospectus which seems to describe a fairytale for children site. Soundtrack in the enchanted forest that derails ^^', the majority of the sculptures are ultra modern and I think hardly understandable for children. In addition, very few rooms in the Palace are open to visitors. Not really nothing so exceptional above all that the price (€10.50) is as expensive as castles including hard visits much much longer. It is a shame the castle to a lot of potential but compared to 'competition' in the region, I do not go back.

  • Great gardens. A temporary exhibition shifted, he must love. And at the entrance a sitting very well laid out to make tea or coffee.

  • A beautiful castle that is used privately. Now to the garden. Old roses, enchanted, modern art. I do believe fairies watch over this park. So beautiful. This includes 2 great movies about the history of the Castle and horse breeding in this place. Not overflow.

  • Beautiful castle and garden with fun activities and things to see. Makes for a fun day out.
  • Very nice during the flowers exposition 2-3 june.
  • Beautiful gardens with lots of activities! Went in summer which was great including jousting festival!
  • One of our favourite Loire Valley chateaux which we encourage visitors to the area to seek out, especially with small children, as they will be enchanted. It is great for adults too with its jousting tournament in the middle of August perhaps the highlight. We love the fact that the owners have instilled a lighter, humorous side to their displays within the castle and its grounds.
  • Nice location with accesable castle, art exhibition and relaxing flower garden.
