Château du Taillan, Le Taillan-Medoc

4.2
#9 of 17 in Historic Sites in Bordeaux
Castle Tourist Spot
Located on the banks of the Garonne, Château du Taillan has been in the winemaking business since the Middle Ages. In fact, the Knights Templar are believed to have made their own wine here. The current owner's family has presided over the business for more than 100 years. Their vineyard specializes in merlot, because the grape does so well in the region's clay-limestone soil. Take a tour of the winery, which covers the history of the castle, as well as its 16th-century cellars, and taste its acclaimed wine. It couldn't be easier to arrange your visit to Château du Taillan and many more Bordeaux attractions: make an itinerary online using Inspirock's Bordeaux travel itinerary maker.

Where to stay in Bordeaux

Most hotels in Bordeaux sit conveniently located a stone's throw away from the train station. Look to Quinconces Square and Gambetta Square for high-end hotels. Those who prefer more budget-friendly accommodations may want to seek out a youth hostel--a relatively recent addition to the city. To secure a spot here, make sure to book ahead of time. In addition to hotels and hostels, choose from guest rooms in a typical Bordeaux house, or a family-friendly beachside campsite.

  • it was very nice trip , we spent a good time there, the chateau is gorgeous, we love their wine!!!
  • Rare underground cellar in Medoc
  • It was during a good Groupon that my wife we discover this beautiful area just minutes northeast of the Bordeaux ring road. The owner of the Castle, very friendly, presents us with his field. The cellars are very beautiful, totally authentic, we're here in basements which have a nice stamp. The gardens are a little classic but they have charm. At the end of the visit we have wines 4-5 (red/white and even pink) of property with a few cheeses, they were very interesting, we even left by buying two bottles. I recommend visiting this castle!

  • We did the tour step by step, it was really very friendly. The person who made the visits we explains everything and is a passionate of the Médoc and the owner family is very nice. In short a great time that I recommend and that will become a staple when knowledge will come to Bordeaux. And of course, the wines are delicious!
