Chateau du Champ de Bataille, Le Neubourg

3.5
#4 of 6 in Parks in Eure
To explore an impressive site of history during your travels, Chateau du Champ de Bataille is the place for you. Built in the 17th century for the Maréchal de Créqui, this castle boasts classical French architecture and beautiful formal gardens. Wander the hallways, where you will witness furnishings and décor that has witnessed centuries of history, including the looting of the castle during the revolution.

The exterior of Chateau du Champ de Bataille complete this perfect picture. The French formal garden was created beginning in 1992 and was inspired by sketches of the original garden, long vanished, which showed the placement of the great terrace, the broderies and bousquets, and the proportions of the squares of Apollo and Diana. The garden is listed by the French Ministry of Culture as one of the Notable Gardens of France. A visit to Chateau du Champ de Bataille represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Le Neubourg tourist route planner to plot your vacation.

Visit the gardens was a pleasure. Do not miss the magnificent greenhouses and new Indian garden. Only downside: we did not have access to all of the collections of the Castle.

I know this Castle since its acquisition by Jacques Garcia. A small tour of Castle friendly and accessible to all budgets, it became for some years a visit out of price for the Castle (there is nothing authentic, the objects were recovered right left) and very limited for the gardens. My visit to this day will be the last before long since let it go is obvious and inconsistent with the admission price: tractor at the end of the driveway along the canal at the sight of all, "raclette" filed (or forgotten?) along with a Bush, hedges at the end of the canal cut and foliage to earth not picked up (and nobody else around) poor general condition (grids having lost their gilding (, "Indian Palace", supposedly the novelty of the year in bad shape: plate loosened in the basement of one of the buildings). About this Palace Indian, superb view in height but impossible to walk around the basin, probably reserved for special guests. Short for me, the delusions of grandeur of Mr. Garcia has to stop and it is imperative to maintain in good condition that exists. As for the "tea room", I abandoned because two years away, what was offered on the map was not available. I hope that Mr Garcia will realize these failures, it would accept certainly not for him even.

We n unable to visit the inside of the Castle, but already the discovery of its sumptuous gardens was enough to delight us. We dive in varied universe, the ancient Greece, a magnificent rose garden and the climb to the Sun. You can spend l after noon, take your time and enjoy.

Admission tickets have a hefty price of 25 EUR. It's not possible to visit only the castle, but visiting only the gardens will costs less. Be aware that it is not possible to pay with (credit) card (yes this review was written in 2017) and that the nearest ATM is over 10km away. Needless to say we did not get to see the interior because we didn't have 100 EUR in cash with us.

This place is amazing. The gardens are breathtaking. If you only have time to visit one place make it this one. I enjoyed this more than Versailles

Can't believe that it is owned by just one person. Super super incredible beautiful stunning palace like a mini size of Versailles. Even much more beautiful.

Paymenly with cash and checques (??) only. There is a card payment device on the counter, but it may only be used for the gift shop. Big disappointment for my 4y old daughters that we had to leave.

This must be a truly magnificent place to visit in summer. We visited in April & paid €12 for the gardens, but half of the gardens were sealed off, the fountains drained/not operational, cafe closed. If this were reflected in the entry price, it wouldnt have been quite so bad!
