Château de Lanquais Reviews

Let goed op de openingstijden, maar dit kasteel, nog altijd bewoond door de barones zelf, ademt een en al geschiedenis uit. Een ware aanrader als je niet een standaard-kasteel wilt bezoeken. more »Please take note of the opening hours, but this castle, still inhabited by the Baroness itself oozes history. A true must if you do not want to visit a standard-castle.

Lorsque c'est trop bien entretenu, on perd un peu de mystère. Ici c'est le contraire... ambiance volets qui grincent et vols de corbeaux au dessus des toits sont au rendez-vous. On a passé un très bon... more »When it is too well maintained, you lose a bit of mystery. Here it's the opposite... atmosphere components, which Squeak and flights of crows above the roofs are waiting. We had a very good time!

Het is van buiten een prachtig gebouw dat helaas veel onderhoud nodig heeft. Binnen is het niet veel beter, defecte verlichting, artefacten die er niet thuis horen (zoals klapstoeltjes, vrieskast, bab... more »It is a beautiful building that unfortunately many maintenance needs. Inside it is not much better, faulty lighting, artifacts that do not belong there (such as folding chairs, freezer, Cot) and a thick layer of dust everywhere. The castle is also dotted with mice droppings. One of the emergency exits in the basement is even a fall in case of emergency (closed door at the end of a small ladder). Also the shutters at the rear of the Castle were all closed, this was the look.

A lived in chateau! It's an impressive building, created over two periods, leaving to an impressive combination of architecture. The inside is well decorated, and restored with original era furnishings. As it's still lived in, there are quite a few areas you can't visit, including the medieval tower, presumably because this is where the family lives, however the rest of the chateau is still worth a visit.

Historic chateau with built in during different centuries and periods. Activities organised during summer. Ideal for kids and adults.

What an incredibly beautiful Castle and how romantic. There are only a few rooms - with four poster beds and 20 foot high ceilings. You feel that you are stepping back into the middle ages. You are treated by the owner as if you too were a member of the aristocracy or royalty. Truly an unforgettable experience. Not only that but there is a water park within short walking distance including archery. The countryside is incredible - whole villages that step right out of the middle ages. Those who have read or seen Michael Crichton's Timeline will be interested in seeing Castelnaud (Castelgard in the book) nearby. The wine in the region is also very good. Older and better than Bordeaux. A stay at Chateau de Lanquais is a must for those who want to experience the period.
