Chateau de Langeais, Langeais

4.6
#10 of 80 in Sightseeing in Loire Valley
Historic Site Tourist Spot
Surrounded by cedars and majestic redwoods, Chateau de Langeais is a medieval castle built in 992 CE by Fulk Nerra. Come to celebrate the wedding of Charles VIII and Anne of Brittany with realistic wax figures depicting their ceremony. Built on a promontory created by the small valley of the Roumer River at the opening to the Loire Valley, you will find a dungeon, playgrounds for your children, a gazebo with picnic areas, and a tree house. Audio commentary in English helps you relive the daily life of a medieval nobleman as well as learn about the furniture, tapestries, and works of art. • This castle m a lot more. It is located in the city center and looks like has a tale with its towers Castle has the entrance. Between end of middle age and early renaissance c is a gem with a nice Park. The Interior is beautiful with lots of furniture ciseles. In the Park it is original there is a sort of mix of cabins that go high enough. Several animations: lifting of the drawbridge little "trick" how-to Videos

  • I had visited the Chateau in Langeais once before quite a few years ago but as we were visiting with friends who did not know the area we thought they might enjoy it. We weren't disappointed. There wa...  more »

  • The gardens are beautiful and well kept. I found the castle itself a lot less interesting than the Villandry. It was a good side trip from the Villandry however and the price was acceptable. The staff were very nice. If it were not for the staff and the garden I'd have only given three stars. They made the difference.
  • Surprising and easy to do in one day. Full of interesting history that is well-to-do both for adults and kids. One of the oldest fortified castle sites in France.
  • Great in every way, one of the best choices yet not at all crowded.
  • Excellent Château. Well kept with knowledgeable staff
  • Very impressive Castle. The ruins in the garden (and the tree house) and view over the Loire should not be missed out. You can also bring a bottle of wine and have a picnic in the garden.
