  • If the keep date of the counts of Anjou in the 10th century, it is only a wall. The castle itself is rather late Middle Ages. His time was marriage in 1421, of the (very young)... Anne of Brittany with Charles VIII of France. By this purely political alliance, which had to be prepared in secrecy (where this relatively obscure site), the Kingdom of France ensured its survival in the face of the overwhelming power of Maximilian of Austria (which was quietly cancel the previous marriage with Anne, precisely!). A good part of the visit reminds this momentous event, between two rooms devoted to the life of the time, to the earthenware of Langeais, etc. It is very informative, and the rooms are very nice, very new... A little too well, because we see that in fact there most any time. The castle had to be fully restored in the 19th century by Mr. Siegfried. The latter clearly endeavoured to respect the style and themes, and the furniture and tapestries of time that furnish parts are interesting and varied. The visit of the building ends with a nice tour of the coastal path, covered in graffiti (it seems some are vintage, but drowned under tourists inconsiderate tags...) The Park is an indispensable part of the visit. The view of the Loire River and the bridge is breathtaking, and the Park is well laid out; What remains medieval Dungeon has been fitted with an impressive scaffolding "as at the time", where you can set up to offer a different view of the Renaissance Castle. Then we would travel to major alleys shaded with a photo exhibition, a lovely cabin in the trees... Enough to spend two hours very nice, but a day of good weather to enjoy the most!

  • Very impressive Castle. The ruins in the garden (and the tree house) and view over the Loire should not be missed out. You can also bring a bottle of wine and have a picnic in the garden.
  • Nice Chateau, especially worth a visit when combined with the Sunday market. They have two daily activities: lifting the bridge and swords fight. Keep your ticket to get discount to other castles in the area.
  • Nice château to make part of a day trip. Cute village too, with delicious icecream
  • Stunning!! Loved it, 2nd pick after Villandry, well worth a visit, explore the town after or stay a day or two.
  • Very nice castle among the Loire Valley castles. In the heart of a medieval city, with a nice park and garden behind the walls. A lot of furniture, curtains, tableware, beds and so on. Not too big, but quite nice to visit. A real back-in-time feeling.
