Chateau de Langeais, Langeais

Surrounded by cedars and majestic redwoods, Chateau de Langeais is a medieval castle built in 992 CE by Fulk Nerra. Come to celebrate the wedding of Charles VIII and Anne of Brittany with realistic wax figures depicting their ceremony. Built on a promontory created by the small valley of the Roumer River at the opening to the Loire Valley, you will find a dungeon, playgrounds for your children, a gazebo with picnic areas, and a tree house. Audio commentary in English helps you relive the daily life of a medieval nobleman as well as learn about the furniture, tapestries, and works of art. • The Dungeon built in 994, allows to admire the second Castle built by Louis XI and its fortified façade with its big towers. A tower is also built by façade renovation works. This mid-mid-Renaissance Castle presents some fifteen beautifully furnished rooms and highlighted by a beautiful lighting as well as a magnificent collection of tapestries. The castle is located in the center of the pretty town of Langeais, free parking nearby. A nice family stroll in perspective.

  • Possibility to take our little dog! Well maintained Chateau but not the prettiest in my opinion. Possibility of storing the bikes on the side. We are not told enough that we can have a discount by visiting a group of castles or just after paying... Damage.

  • One of most beautiful castles of Loire valley. Situated in the center of Langeais. Great castle with exhibition inside. It has beautiful garden - true french style garden - too. Don't forget to visit it.
  • This castle is both very pretty and very relevant to French history. Inside, there is lots of furniture and other items from old times (some are replicas), as well as a nice story about how a previous owner (quite rich fellow) took care of the place to transform it into a public memory place. The place is where unified France was born through the marriage of Charles VIII and Anne of Brittany. Gardens are very pretty too and the town is truly beautiful.
  • Great visit of a medieval castle. Very instructive. Interesting videos. Nice boutique. Plus three demonstrations per day of falconerie. I really recommend this chateau.
  • A beautiful castle with lots of history, including an older structure behind it. Lovely for picture taking, and most of the castle can be explored. There are helpful cards which explain what each room's purpose. The staff is also very nice, some of whom are dressed in period and even put on a little show.
  • Beautiful castle and a great visit with kids for it's activities (bird show etc). In addition very nice and relaxing park. Definitely recommend !
