Chateau de Langeais, Langeais

Surrounded by cedars and majestic redwoods, Chateau de Langeais is a medieval castle built in 992 CE by Fulk Nerra. Come to celebrate the wedding of Charles VIII and Anne of Brittany with realistic wax figures depicting their ceremony. Built on a promontory created by the small valley of the Roumer River at the opening to the Loire Valley, you will find a dungeon, playgrounds for your children, a gazebo with picnic areas, and a tree house. Audio commentary in English helps you relive the daily life of a medieval nobleman as well as learn about the furniture, tapestries, and works of art. • I took a friend who discovered the place, without a doubt I will return with my gang of bikers to discover a castle of the Loire far too little known.

  • the Castle, the ancient remains and the Park are splendid. fifteen parts furnished and highlighted with multilingual explanations. in season there are guided tours which are a great addition. a little-known Castle has not to miss.

  • When we think of the Loire Château, we think at Chambord, Azay, Chenonceau, Blois and Amboise. But who knows that Langeais (not), there is a fortified castle around which this charming town has developed? The place is very nice... and the close proximity of a great restaurant (1 *) does not spoil anything!

  • I thought I was going to love this place when I saw the website - there were quite a few rooms but if lesser quality than other castles I’ve visited. Also this castle is right in town, so the gardens are not nearly as beautiful as other castles in the Loire valley. There is a nice view though of the city.
  • Absolutely amazing. 3 children aged 1.5- 3.5yrs and they had a wonderful day. NOT stroller/wheelchair friendly as typical narrow castle steps, but we left the stroller with reception, and the children all had no trouble navigating their way around. Beautiful castle, phenomenal views, and modern, fun play structures in the beautiful gardens. Would recommend.
  • Nice place to visit. There were two nice animations that kids liked a lot: drawbridge closing and sword "fighting". These are nice addition to the castle visit. Nice walk in the "garden". Not that expensive for a 2 to 3 hour attraction.
  • Small but nice château. You can't go inside of the château (except for the toilets and gift shop) and it isn't as impressive as other châteaux in the area, but I still think it's worth a visit.
  • The gardens are beautiful and well kept. I found the castle itself a lot less interesting than the Villandry. It was a good side trip from the Villandry however and the price was acceptable. The staff were very nice. If it were not for the staff and the garden I'd have only given three stars. They made the difference.
