Abbaye de Lagrasse, Lagrasse

(3.8/5 based on 280 reviews on the web)
Abbaye de Lagrasse, a Romanesque Benedictine abbey, dates back to the seventh century. The abbey was of tremendous religious and political importance in the 12th century and was fortified during the 13th, 14th, and 15th centuries. Look for the small cloister with carved columns depicting The Luxury. The upper gallery leads to the abbey chapel, where you can admire its highly decorated walls. The Romanesque church was constructed with a single nave ending in a presbytery with a transept and three apses, and an octagonal bell tower. During restoration efforts, builders discovered an ancient Romanesque portal with a marble sculpted arch. The monk's dormitory features an ogival vault with a timber framework. • A displacement, a very elegant Abbey and two visits. The Abbey of Lagrasse is one of the largest and the oldest in the Department of Aude in the heart of the Corbières, it divides into two parts. Most old (e IX in the 15th) centuries is owned by the County Council and the most recent of the XVIII e belongs to the community of the canons regular of the mother of God. The oldest part is under renovation for several years, but worth the glance, very welcome with a smile, if you're lucky, you will meet a character who is part of the walls, is a former City Councillor, he will tell you the Abbey of his village with passion. Price very reasonable €4 allow an hour to visit. For the most part very beautiful classic architecture, it is occupied by religious, you can cross them and talk with them, they will explain why they are dressed in white. Allow one hour or more for the tour price €5. Icing on the cake, the medieval village of Lagrasse ranked among the most beautiful villages of France. It is located on the other Bank of the Orbieu, crossed by the beautiful old stone bridge or to Ford. For you restore, you'll be spoilt of choice and at any price. In short, a beautiful Ballad of a day.
