Grottes de Lacave, Lacave

4.4
#3 of 7 in Nature in Lot
After riding the small train into the Grottes de Lacave, continue your tour of the caves through Tarasque Hall, where rock formations evoke legendary animals. After crossing the Room of the Three Fates and the Snow Room, you'll see the immense stone called Our Lady of Lacave. When you reach the Hall of the Great Dome, the lakes become more numerous and the formations become more curious: A column looks like the legs of spiders, for example. The Mirage room offers the breathtaking spectacle of a mysterious underwater city. The greatest treasure of all is the Wonderland room, lit by dramatic black lights that animate it to appear like a living being. I wanted to forget the cave of rocamadour, I did well, it's magical... magical. Council, take a camera that makes a decent picture in the dark.

A nice tour starting with a small train ride, which liked to my 5 year old daughter. Predict a sweater because it is a permanent temperature of 14 degrees.

There are enough reviews about this place to get a good idea of what it is. Its beautiful inside the cave with nice lighting and most people really like it. However, I say its not for everyone because the "train trip" is only about 5 mins long and only takes you down into the cave. From there, you will have to hike up and down stairs for the next 1½ hours. We had 2 small kids and weren't expecting it. TIP1: use the toilet before you go. TIP2: to avoid the crowds, get on the 1st train in the morning when it opens, or on the first train when it re-opens after lunch (times change so check the website first). TIP3: I heard there are some English guides, but couldn't figure out how to book them.

Very cool tourist attraction! Explore this cave! You enter this cave with a train. Offices also houses a small gift shop.

The little train is fun but if your French is as bad as mine, you will miss some of the information. Still well worth going.

Very nice caves, far less crowded that the ones in le Gouffre de Padirac. You go twice into each chamber, so you see everything very well. However, there is are no visits in English. There is one grotto illuminated with black light, never saw anything like that.

Beautiful cave in the end of the train ride.
