  • The village of La Romieu is typical of the architecture of the region, one has the impression that it has remained unchanged for decades. The collegiate church is very impressive. This gives village want to linger longer and why not stay a few days, during the trip to St Jacques de Compostela.

  • The name of La Romieu refers to "pilgrims", on their way to Rome or elsewhere. This name is still quite justified because it is in this place that cross the paths of Compostela from Rocamadour and the Puy en Velay. It's from a Priory that cardinal Arnaud of to the, a native of La Romieu and Chamberlain of Pope Clement V, founded the collegiate church in 1317 with the support of the Pope and the King of England Edward II, on which depended the Romieu at this time. We enjoyed the visit of this religious set made up of the St. Peter's Collegiate Church with its two towers (one octagonal and the other square (belfry), double staircase) and the cloister and its four galleries adjacent to the northern part of the temple. Opportunity to climb the two towers by narrow stairs; You can then enjoy a great view of the surrounding countryside of the bastide of La Romieu with the beautiful garden of the cloister. Southern Gothic style, such as the cathedrals of Lectoure and Condom, the collegiate church displays a defensive military type architecture (supported many foothills and low openings in the lower part of the facades, nave to promote the preaching, etc.). Rate low (5,1e), widely deserved; possibility of guided visits (10 people). Several paintings, statues and stained glass (discover the face of Christ in the center of one of them). Admire the magnificent frescoes and the vault of the sacristy. By visiting the bastide of La Romieu, get cats of Angeline (Maurice Serreau work inspired by a local legend).
