  • An interesting story with some good exhibits which set the scene of what it would be like then. There was a useful written guide in English which they lend you at the entrance.  more »
  • It's impressive when I visit a city and that I discovered a treasure of the second world war intact because this building in "under ground" is a never was bombed apart from life on the inside, it's really a history museum and I liked the scenes with the mannequins. It is really informative and I recommend this tour, in addition there are puzzles for children.

  • The bunker has really remained as it was, and the exhibition includes several interesting objects, weapons, uniforms and pictures.

  • Captures in a totally authentic way a slice of French history. Can be appreciated by readers and listeners alike. Has been hidden for decades - now sensitively uncovered. Time well spent.
  • I looked forward to the Bunker since we made the decision to come to La Rochelle. What I found was quite different to my expectations, however. I anticipated a museum dedicated to the Battle of the Atlantic, the U-Boat pens at La Pallice, the Allied attempts to destroy the pens, the role the bunker played in the Kriegsmarine's network . . . Instead, we found a well thought out and organised tribute to the life of La Rochelle during the war. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't what my advanced reading had lead me to expect.
  • Very interesting place that documents the life in La Rochelle during the Nazi occupation. Unfortunately, al the information is in French only.
  • English guide with LOTS of reading.
  • A very interesting museum that takes visitors through recreations of life during WWII, including the lives of German soldiers stationed in La Rochelle who were the inhabitants of the titular bunker. Though everything is in French, guests can request a written museum guide in English. The museum is full of artifacts and interesting fun facts. (For example, did you know that La Rochelle became the site of two iconic movies, Das Boot and Raiders of the Lost Ark?) Note that this museum is located in the heart of historic La Rochelle and has NOTHING to do with the concrete submarine bases built out by the harbor. These are closed to the public. Rather, the term "bunker" refers to the structure built under a city hotel to protect German soldiers and officers from Allied bombings, in which the museum is now located.
