Château de la Roche-Guyon, La Roche-Guyon
(4.4/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
The tenth-century builders of Château de la Roche-Guyon dug the castle into a limestone cliff that overlooks the Seine. It was impossible to see the castle from the river, yet the castle had a wide view of the valley--making it an ideal defensive structure for medieval warfare. The manor house that stands today was built in the 12th century and continued to serve this purpose right up through World War II, when German Field Marshall Rommel made the castle his headquarters. Today, it serves as a museum with guided tours. Use our La Roche-Guyon travel itinerary planner to add Château de la Roche-Guyon and other attractions to your La Roche-Guyon vacation plans.

  • The Castle, which is from the 18th century. century is located in the beautiful city of La Roche-Guyon on the river Seine, approximately 60 km north west of Paris. It is partly built with limestone rock, which is located behind the Castle. A round duct may be recommended. The castle is not furnished. You come a long way around, inter alia, there are approximately 250 steps up to the old Castle at the top, from which there is a nice view over the Valley of the Seine. The castle's Casemates were used by Rommel in 1944.

  • The road running through the village takes its charm to the scene. You will walk along the Seine. The banks and the old bridge are very relaxing.

  • Already the location requires, clinging to the cliff and dominated by an old Dungeon with across the street a beautiful vegetable garden extending to the edge of the seine, do not miss if you are in shape the 250 steps that lead to the old Dungeon, views however the Interior is disappointing, little parts to visit, little furniture, the cellars and the empty underground Fortunately as temporary exhibitions to save the setting.

  • Excellent place to see. This visit had a very interesting exhibition of chairs from recent times back several hundred years. Cool seeing them in the expansive space of the chateau . The climb to the top of the top of the tower is a good workout! Well worth the time spent!!
  • Very nice castle to visit
  • Wonderful Castle in stone. It is superb! Beware there are a lot of very high market but in the end the view over the Valley of the Seine is breathtaking. Even the underground are to visit I loved

  • Rude host. We arrived at 18:01 and we have been denied entry to visit this magnificent Castle no bluntly, because "last ticket sold one hour before closing". While the times disclosed on Google are 10-19 h. It's a shame because it gives a very bad image of tourism in the region, and we have been very disappointed with not being able to make the visit, because passing through the area for a short duration.
