Château de la Roche-Guyon, La Roche-Guyon
(4.4/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
The tenth-century builders of Château de la Roche-Guyon dug the castle into a limestone cliff that overlooks the Seine. It was impossible to see the castle from the river, yet the castle had a wide view of the valley--making it an ideal defensive structure for medieval warfare. The manor house that stands today was built in the 12th century and continued to serve this purpose right up through World War II, when German Field Marshall Rommel made the castle his headquarters. Today, it serves as a museum with guided tours. Use our La Roche-Guyon travel itinerary planner to add Château de la Roche-Guyon and other attractions to your La Roche-Guyon vacation plans.

  • This former Castle is undergoing major works at the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries (monumental entrance, stables, two new pavilions are added). A very large vegetable garden is created in front of the Castle between the road and the river Seine. Great regret during the visit of the rooms: all the furniture disappeared sold for financial reasons we were told and the facilities are the exhibitions having no connection with the story. The one we saw on our visit had no interest, a view shared by others present. However it is recommended strongly to the Dungeon, because of this site there is a wonderful view over the Valley of the Seine, the gardens and the village. Beware the rise by the stairs can be for some difficult people.

  • Pretty town along the Seine, with the 2 castles and the Garden opened, small restaurants and terraces, very nice.

  • What a pleasure to come to these places and according to the proposed events. Whether it's a Christmas market, exposure plants and flowers in may, and also visits the Castle, etc...

  • Excellent place to see. This visit had a very interesting exhibition of chairs from recent times back several hundred years. Cool seeing them in the expansive space of the chateau . The climb to the top of the top of the tower is a good workout! Well worth the time spent!!
  • Very nice castle to visit
  • Wonderful Castle in stone. It is superb! Beware there are a lot of very high market but in the end the view over the Valley of the Seine is breathtaking. Even the underground are to visit I loved

  • Rude host. We arrived at 18:01 and we have been denied entry to visit this magnificent Castle no bluntly, because "last ticket sold one hour before closing". While the times disclosed on Google are 10-19 h. It's a shame because it gives a very bad image of tourism in the region, and we have been very disappointed with not being able to make the visit, because passing through the area for a short duration.
