Chateau de La Ferte Saint Aubin, La Ferte-Saint-Aubin

Built at the end of the 16th century, Chateau de La Ferte Saint Aubin now accommodates large receptions in the L'Orangerie, and provides accommodations in the Maison d'Hôtes. Surrounded by a moat, there is a small castle to the left of the main structure built between 1590 and 1620 and a larger castle with two pavilions framing the entrance gate. Get your camera ready for that picture-perfect moment on the large 40 hectare (99 acres) grounds with stables dating back to the early 19th century, French formal gardens, and rare trees such as the Araucaria. Put Chateau de La Ferte Saint Aubin into our La Ferte-Saint-Aubin road trip site and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • We spent the day at the Castle and enjoyed the visit and the course of poisons adapted to all ages. We were teenagers and small children with us; everyone loved it, including tastings of madeleines in the ancient kitchen. We strongly recommend the visit: If this can also help to preserve these small castles, then we encourage this type of initiative.

  • The castle still under restoration, (hat Guyot family!) is well highlighted. Kitchens the slot floor are impressive, the stables rehabilitated allow you to see a fine collection of harness to hitch. In the attic a collection of old tools exhibition of old toys on our visit, and all the old games you can test! The entry fee is quite justified. However we did not visit the Park, which looks very nice. No tour, but an explanatory leaflet.

  • The first impression is, here, a major overhaul is necessary. The second impression but a feeling that here alive is. In the kitchen in the basement, there are demonstrations. Much is to be touched, invites the kids toys. Time seems to stand still here. Unfortunately not at many appearances, such as for example the bridge to the Park.

  • Fantastic family day out. We all loved the Poison Game in the garden, especially my sons (4+7), although some of it was hard for the little one. Worth paying the extra for this. The games were top as well, a huge variety from wooden versions of board games through to archery and mini golf. Plus a decadent chateau (or more correctly a country house which is still lived in) which never felt stuffy and has been beautifully restored. Really good value. Mind the geese in the car park don't try to eat your lunch!
  • Family restoration project; A lot of work has been done and there is so much to do. Deserves recognition and support!
  • Simple visit. Very interesting renovstion work. Many old style games proposed.
  • Great for kids - a change from all the big and fancy châteaux...
  • Interesting restoration programme. Peaceful vibe.
