A 14th-century Gothic castle with its own moat, Chateau de La Brede - Montesquieu gained reknown as the frequent residence of French political philosopher Montesquieu. Here he wrote "Sprit of the Laws," which influenced America's founding fathers in their writing of the U.S. Constitution. Left open to the public by a descendent of Montesquieu, today it is open to visitors. Tour the castle to see the famed author's bedroom and library, preserved since his death in the 18th century. Outside, tour the English gardens Montesquieu created, stroll through the vineyard surrounding the castle, or wander over the moat's bridges. Too bad that during my visit at 2.30 pm a car parked right in front of the gatehouse of the Castle (not terrible pou rl' atmosphere and especially the photographs). Shame on the other hand that the public can't visit more parts; the dining room including including a recent show "roots and wings" show us yet the redevelopment; It appears that this visit is reserved to groups; other spart there are other rooms for the stay of the members of the Foundation...show original

I'd call it a treat, unlike many other castles of France where "you know very well what they sell there is" this is a small chest. Worth a vissita if you are in the area.show original
