3.5/5 based on 130+ reviews on the web
Located in the municipality of La Barben, Chateau de la Barben is a castle that has been classified as a historical monument ever since 21st December 1984. Chateau de la Barben was originally the abbey of Saint Victor in Marseille, although no one really knows the exact era when it was constructed. Historians believe, however, that Chateau de la Barben was constructed before 1000 and owned by the Ponteves family. What will surely grab your attention when you stroll into the castle are the gardens. Chateau de la Barben is known to have the best gardens in the province and the landscaping is considered to be one of the most beautiful. • First - Castle was wonderful (not awesome), tour was pretty good (not in English), medieval fair on grounds was less than mediocre (not formally affiliated with castle). We visited La Barben in August...  read more »
  • Internet sire indicating "open today from 10: 00 to 18: 00", but upon arrival, and after 30km, no home and no visits despite the display at the entrance. It is probably easier to rent guest rooms and collect subsidies than to undertake to make visits to the public. Even the garden was not accessible. We often visit castles, but we had not yet experienced it. Lamentable!

  • Nice, to make at least once in his life to enjoy the charm and the view from the terrace at the top. Nice to spend an afternoon

  • It was closed and the hours are not posted! Very frustrating!
  • Had a wedding here, the place is stunning and ideal for a summer party. There is however a major downside, the lady who owns the castle is not a professional and lost her cool several times. She shouted at people for sitting on the furniture without warning. She went on a rant for no reason, almost making the bride cry. Her husband is a good guy but she is a horrible host. Be careful, as this can trigger unwelcome consequences on an emotional day.
  • Nice, natural, quite and beautiful chateau..
  • Guided tour of the castle in just 45 minutes. It is much too fast and is not even the time to appreciate the quality and professionalism of the guide. Too bad. 1 h 30 would be welcome. Superb Castle quite atypical. To see.

  • We spent a night at the Château de la Barben may 27. We left happy. A visit to the Castle rewarding (and free despite a smarbox), beautiful gardens, a delicious meal and a good breakfast. We had the same benefits as the "normal" hosts. Nothing to say, everything was perfect.
