  • It's called Nôtre-Dame des Anges for a reason and despite the unprepossessing exterior, the lavishly decorated Baroque interior with the 200+ angels above the side chapels, the altar screen with Raymond de Vieux's painting of the Assumption (the original intention), and Jean-Baptiste Peru's 22 wooden unpainted statues (to symbolise the allegory and mystery of the Trinity) do not fail to impress. The facade is in the Jesuit style of which Rome's many churches are good examples. The 17th C matching organs are sumptuously gilded. Thursday is market day and mornings a good time to visit.
