La montagne des singes, Kintzheim

4.1
#2 of 37 in Parks in Bas-Rhin
Take a side trip to the Atlas Mountains without leaving the region. Escape into the world of the Barbary Macaque. Wander through 60 acres of pristine forest to observe free roaming macaques frolic and play with their young and interact with their troupes in a natural setting. The Barbary Macaque is the only free-living primate in Europe, and La montagne des singes or "Monkey Mountain" is dedicated to the protection and conservation of these feisty primates. Make sure to purchase bags of popcorn at the front gate or, if you’re too shy, enjoy watching any number of feedings throughout the day. Listen in as guides and conservationists discuss the importance of preserving the species. • We took advantage of a visit to friends to visit Monkey Mountain and we enjoyed the experience, the monkeys are very close to us, (we have to stay at 1m for safety), but they do not hesitate to take the popcorns distributed to our entry into the palm of our hand! To do with children, success assured!

  • Yes you have to discover this magical place where 250 monkeys will receive you in this beautiful park, they will come delicately to take a treat in your hand. Very beautiful achievement where the animals are in the wild and in very good health.

  • Excellent tour of the park with monkeys in freedom and close to visitors. Happiness for children and adults alike. The park staff is really great, always listening and smiling, you really feel their desire to show off their passion. Really great!

  • Amazing to walk with be able to feed the monkeys. Staff were attentive and all around the park to look out for the public. Reasonably priced. Very reassuring. Shame all the talks were in French only. Really enjoyed the visit.
  • The shelter is very nice. The staff very professional and helpful. The monkeys are so cute. Recommended for a couple of hours.
  • It is a great family adventure. Visitors receive a handful of popcorns at the entrance to offer them to the monkeys. Approximately we spent 1.5 hours in the park. Outside there is a nice picnic area. Tip: don’t rush to feed the monkeys at the entrance, they are often full. Go deeper in the park to have better interactions with the curious ones.
  • Seeing all the monkeys was adorable. Some kept to themselves and others hung out with the humans because they wanted snacks. The staff can speak German, English and French, which is very convenient. The park supports the endangered monkeys and helps setting them free in Morocco again. I think that’s very cool. I can highly recommend this park. Especially when you’re traveling with kids.
  • Nice place to visit, I honestly did not expected so many monkeys around, at least I was thinking they were hiding more in the trees, but indeed while you walk inside, they are all around getting some food. The food is provided by the personnel working in the park, and is only popcorn. The tour is not that long, only about 30-40 min so possibly the ticket is a bit overpriced, but on the other end I understand all this require a lot of maintenance and many staff people were working inside this place.
