#17 of 31 in Parks in Dordogne
The Château de Jumilhac is a modified castle in the commune of Jumilhac-le-Grand in the Dordogne département of France. Its construction dates from the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. The edifice is composed of the castle itself, constructed in the 15th century, and two wings added during the reign of Louis XIV. A covered porch and two arcaded walls link the ends of the wings and thus form an almost rectangular court of honour. At the rear façade is a terrassed lawn and an orangery. A parkland completes the site. The central part was classified as a monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture in 1922, the right wing in 1923 and the left wing in 1924. The castle and gardens are privately owned but are open to the public.

I loved this Chateau with its fairytale turrets and its central place in Jumilhac le Grand. The tour was informative with lots of information about the people who lived there over the years. The guide...  more »

We have visited the castle under the supervision of an English speaking tour guide. In high season it does that on Mondays and Thursdays. As a result, the children could understand it too. The guide was great and played well in on the many young children. The tour lasted an hour and that was just enough for us. If you're in the area and highly recommended. View in eider case the roof carefully again.

It's not Longleat or any National Trust property. Back in private hands from the state, it's run down and largely unfurnished. There's a good tale about one of the occupants over 30 years though, along the lines of Rapunzel, and I fancy that brings 'em in. Our guide spoke both English and French and we enjoyed the tour. There's a lot to do to improve this place and funding is needed!

Went to a wedding here. Amazingly romantic surroundings. In a village steeped in history.
