Col de la Bonette, Jausiers

Col de la Bonette is a high mountain pass in the French Alps, near the border with Italy. It is approximately 2,715 m (8,907 ft) high. It is situated within the Mercantour National Park on the border of the departments of Alpes-Maritimes and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. The road is the seventh highest paved road in the Alps.

You will see a signpost at the foot of the climb which reads "Col de la Bonette- 2802 m above sea level, highest road in Europe". This claim is incorrect for various reasons. It is, however, the highest asphalted road in France and is the highest through road in Europe. A lunar place, above all. When you pass, there's a little less 1 km to reach the Summit of the Bonette 2820 m. small road built in the 1960s just for fun because it doesn't help... too loud at the time... careful I think the place is) deprecated in fog with heavy rains, because you should not miss a turn...

Made several times going up by both the Colle della Lombarda which from lamb and Magdalene with different BMW ... is one of the paradises for bikes in Europe with the nearby l'iseran Isoard and the Stelvio and the ROAR the St. Bernard in Italy on Grosslockner in Austria ... It is especially recommended to do alone and by means that allow you to exploit the full potential of the climb ... a tourist climb since it leads to the "nothing" I guess it doesn't make any sense ... the Col de la Bonette is not the point of arrival but is the way the road is demanding walking along trying on reaching the limit of the bike especially if powerful ... I have a BMW S1000RR and it is difficult to avoid at each corner exit the bike will not power up-ends but the perfect asphalt and the limited traffic if traveled during the week provide a guide to the limit. The descent to the Colle della Lombarda if traveled with the same driving style of ascent is not suitable for heart patients ... in many places the wall of protection is high no more than 40 cm and under vacuum is 200/300 meters

More high road in Europe: beautiful and do absolutely with a clear time to enjoy the scenery. We did it by car and we stopped at each point of view that seemed interesting on the side of the road. Once in the neck at 2800 m, you have to climb the last 60 m walk along a small path to admire the orientation table and the view from the top.

Spectacular 360-degree view from the highest paved road in Europe. Beware of crowds of cyclists (motor and non-motor) and caravans on the road, especially in summer. Exercise EXTREME CARE when passing in curves. Spectacular 360 degree views from the road but high in Europe. However, pay attention to the many cyclists (moto and bici) and be very careful when you go beyond the curves (the two wheels are used to have "absolute priority" in these mountain roads in France and in many countries European electorate showing. Go her!
