The Jardin Georges Delaselle is a historic botanical garden located on the Île de Batz, Finistère, in the region of Brittany, France. It is open daily except Tuesday in the warmer months; an admission fee is charged. The garden was created between 1898-1918 by Parisian insurer Georges Albert Delaselle (1861-1944), who supervised excavation among the island's dunes of a deep, terraced bowl five metres in diameter. There he established an excellent collection of exotic plants, but in 1937 he was forced to sell the property, which in 1957 was reworked to be a summer camp. The garden then fell into disuse for thirty years. In 1987 it was repurchased, and with major investments beginning in 1991 it has subsequently been restored. In 1997 the nonprofit Conservatoire de l’Espace Littoral et des Rivages Lacustres assumed ownership.Today the garden contains more than 2000 plant species suited to the island's Mediterranean climate, with fine collections of palms, cactus, and succulents. Two-thirds are native to the southern hemisphere, primarily from Chile, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. The garden also contains a Bronze Age necropolis with the remains of ten tombs.

  • If you don't have a thing to see on the island it is one here. Haven of peace and rest. I think that the earthly paradise was like that. Congratulations to gardeners, maintenance perfect, we'd almost on the ground. Several well defined, well maintained sites with a wide variety of plants... My favorite

  • On the island of Batz already interesting to all points of view we discover the garden that Georges Delaselle has imagined and built in an extraordinary way. Difficult to describe in detail the flora that is there. Everything is beautiful and to do the detour to see it when it is in Britain.

  • Very nice trip South from Europe to extreme north Breton l. A Palm Grove, the Dracenas, cactus, the phormium, ferns and other exotic species. All this harmoniously maintained to the millimeter in a homely setting.

  • A beautiful garden with surprising and exotic plants. The impression of being isolated from the world is very nice and many offer views over the sea or the continent.

  • Once landed on the island of Batz, what a surprise to feel the softness of living a pleasant microclimate. It is thanks to this that Georges Delaselle was able to design this very interesting exotic garden. Indeed, we view full of species we do not imagine to find in Brittany: Palm trees, cactus, plant bulbs, Australian collections... Very exotic like garden... especially as the visit is well guided, and each species is well presented. Several breaks may be to contemplate the garden facing the sea.
