Chateau de Ranrouet, Herbignac

4.0
#9 of 20 in Historic Sites in Loire-Atlantique
Ruin Historic Site
The imposing ruins of Chateau de Ranrouet still give you a sense of the stalwart fortress that it must have been, boasting six towers and thick battlements. The castle is nestled among the trees behind tiered walls that overlook to the town below. Although all that remains of it are the outer walls and a few towers, it still presents an opportunity to climb the old stones and imagine yourself a knight manning a stronghold against many French foe. • Beautiful ruins in the quiet in a wooded setting. A small course of 1 hour with a little game of questions and answers pleasantly decorates the visit.

  • €4 for visit a castle in ruins... and again, crumbling is a weak Word: it remains half eroded walls. Wouldn't it not a bit of abu? I think that the height is €5 guided tour, lol, there's even more roof to your Castle

  • Great for photos, but that's all, not much to see.

  • Absence of a castle, we rather ruins of a castle... This isn't a matter, but objectively, there is not much to see. Nice for a stroll, Mattie doesn't justify a day on-site.
