Chateau d'Abbadie, Hendaye
(4.4/5 based on 440+ reviews on the web)
In a country where many sites can trace their history through thousands of years, Chateau d'Abbadie is rather modern.

Built between 1864 and 1879, this Neo-Gothic structure is a study in contrasts: old and new, Eastern and Western, science and Catholicism. It was built for linguist, anthropologist, geographer, and astronomer Antoine d'Abbadie, who designed the eclectic structure around his interests. Upon his death, he left the home to the French Academy of Sciences, which still owns it. Make Chateau d'Abbadie a centerpiece of your Hendaye vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Hendaye family vacation planner.

  • Very nice site too bad that visiting us is was propose to 100 km/h and the comments made by a young man who had speech not being problems very safe in his presentation of explanations on the various rooms but good must give a chance to this young man to get started in the profession of guide.

  • The visit is very professional, fun and enjoyable. Castle I would say atypical by the State D spirit described as empathetic, curious and open mind D D Antoine of Abbadia: we find all that in this castle, which is far from be austere and is full of small details that have their story...

  • Very nice castle but fotos are not allowed inside, sadly. But the views are nice
  • To make the most of your visit take the guided tour. I took the guided tour of both interiors and exteriors which was a good choice; I think that without the guide I wouldn't have notice or understood many features of the castle. It is a magical place, worth seeing. I wouldn't mind visiting again.
