The Château de Hautefort is a French château and gardens located in the town of Hautefort in the Dordogne. The château was reconstructed in the 17th century, and embellished with a Garden à la française. In 1853, the landscape architect, Count of Choulot, redid the gardens, adding a landscape garden, geometric flower gardens, topiary gardens imitating the domes of the château, and a long tunnel of greenery. Next to the formal gardens is a hill with an Italian garden with winding shaded paths. Notable trees in the park include a Magnolia grandiflora and a Cedar of Lebanon. The gardens are listed by the Committee of Parks and Gardens of the Ministry of Culture of France as one of the Notable Gardens of France. In popular cultureThe Château de Hautefort was used in the 1966 film 13 . The Château de Hautefort was featured in the 1998 film Ever After starring Drew Barrymore. The château was portrayed as the character Prince Henry's castle. Many of the film's scenes were shot in and around the Dordogne.

  • I was delighted to discover the Castle featured in a novel by Juliette Benzoni. The gardens are very well maintained with overall pretty little flowers. The castle is very beautiful on the outside as inside.

  • Beautiful land of greenery with its beautifully maintained gardens to the French. Fun night visit with the involvement of extras making the visit enjoyable. Discover also, the Park and the castle for on the Easter period with your children, looking for puzzles goshawks on a theme always well thought.

  • Castle outside the norm very appreciated for film shoots, the last date of 2016: the death of the King Louis IX with Mr. Léaud in the role of the King, out on screens in autumn 2016. Visits recommended by the light of candles, with costumed actors summer evenings... Who seem to inhabit the castle: stunning! Besides the magnificent view of the countryside of the country of Hautefort from the terraces.

  • Beautiful chateau and amazing gardens. The rooms are decorated in Renaissance-type styling. They are doing work on the chateau as of July 2016.
  • The Chateaux is incredible. However at present major reconstruction is taking place and I truly feel it should rather be closed for the duration of the work. We paid EUR19.00 for 2 people and the construction materials and vehicles spoil every picture. Several parts of the Chateaux were also closed. Very disappointed
  • Incredible. The English gardens and the formal french gardens are truly beautiful. A magnificent treasure in the Dordogne.
  • Awesome place
  • It's not the Castle style that I love but when even a nice tour the gardens are nice to also do visit the village
