Paul Mistral Park is an urban park located in Grenoble. It is 67 acres and it holds important sportive facilities and the city hall. Placed inside an old military engineering ground, it was created thanks to the International Exhibition of Hydropower and Tourism which took place in 1925.HistoryIn 1836, after the general Haxo achieved to build the city's ramparts, the current area of the park is used as a military engineering place outside the town for shooting training. So, this area is reserved for the military needs only and none building is allowed. At this location was also the door, one of the five city's gates, the door of the Alpes ("Porte des Alpes" in French) which allowed people to go to Eybens or Vizille. The 1925 exhibitionIn 1919, an ambitious mayor, Paul Mistral wished to open the city by destroying the Haxo ramparts. From 1921, thanks to the economic rising due to the use of hydropower, he planned to organize in Grenoble an international exhibition about hydropower and tourism. However, a such exhibition needed a vast ground near the city center and implied to destroy the southern ramparts.Once the ramparts destroyed, the military engineering ground could be used and the new Alpes boulevard (became Jean Pain boulevard since 1944) is created at the North. The Eybens avenue is straighten up to go along the West side of the exhibition site.

  • Side A of the hotel OKKO. nothing exceptional! This Park obviously does not support fall and still less the Toussaint!

  • We spent a few days at the edge of this park in a nearby hotel and as we have a small dog were able to walk there several times. He is tall and quite common, pretty clean but flower beds are a little sad, but it's maybe the end of season. The monuments and buildings are a little odd and even if each history clean there is no link or common theme. At night there is a good child activity around the Pizza Shack, but a little further attendance is a bit strange and marginal. Alcoholic interpellations or others are common. so it is better to stay on the sidelines side lit up for being left alone.

  • A good book is a great company within the Parc Paul Mistral. The green of the vegetation is mixed with towering buildings that at one point as the seat of the 1968 winter OLYMPICS.

  • Very clean with several good spots for picnic, yoga or other static activities. Also is big enough to walk, jog and run. There is a small train circuitry for kids.
  • A very nice park to chill, relax, play. Very active during weekends with people playing music, doing slack-line and enjoying. A nice place to go!
  • Do a nap here, enjoy Grenoble.
  • LE parc de Grenoble.
  • Go for the abandoned observation tower by the famous Perret Brothers.
