Village des Bories, Gordes

3.4
#2 of 26 in Sightseeing in Luberon
Ruin Tourist Spot
Visit Village des Bories for a close-up look at the ruins of a small hamlet from Napoleonic times. Wander through this open-air museum to examine about 20 dry stone huts that were used primarily for agricultural reasons. Some of them comprised part of a Gordoise nave--a multipurpose area used as a seasonal dwelling, a tool shed, or even a sheep shelter. • Very interesting meeting with the ancient times. Good explanations in each building.
  • If you feel adventurous, there are Bories surrounded by walls and paths just outside the village which are worth a visit.
  • A bit out of the way, but interesting to go through. Gives you a real feel for life of peasants relying on neighbors to build everything needed to live, including your home. Very moving.
  • Interesting to explore a bygone way of life.
  • Just like an alien sci-fi movie set!
