Village des Bories, Gordes

3.6
Visit Village des Bories for a close-up look at the ruins of a small hamlet from Napoleonic times. Wander through this open-air museum to examine about 20 dry stone huts that were used primarily for agricultural reasons. Some of them comprised part of a Gordoise nave--a multipurpose area used as a seasonal dwelling, a tool shed, or even a sheep shelter. • This is kind of a cool place. It's a bit out of the way, but it depicts a slice of old French life that is quite unique. We enjoyed it.  more »
  • Visit not very long, on a site perfectly restored. The Bories are beautiful, the place is clean.

  • A real must visit place. A lot of hard work has gone into making this a remarkable experience. It shows life as it was and the skill and ingenuity of man without high tech.
  • It was a beautiful quiet place, we were alone to visit it, so we could relax and enjoy the silence while discovering the different bories
  • 100% worth the visit! I just saw the sign and drove to it. It’s about a 5min drive in through a beautiful narrow road with water running into it. Lots of walkers and part of it is one way. Parking right at the sight. Such an incredible thing to see. Amazing architectural feat back then! €6 entry with great displays and information. They haven’t made it all touristy so it’s really nice and authentic. Make sure you visit it.
  • Small, self-guided tour area. The road to the parking lot is a challenge, but it's worth the trip. Bathrooms and water bottle vending machine on site.
  • Great place for kids to explore and adults to discover. I would have enjoyed more detail about the archaeological and restoration efforts, for example how the knew what was what.
