A lone fortress in the waters of the Pertuis d'Antioche, Fort Boyard has walls as high as 66 ft (20 m). The oval-shaped fortress is 223 ft (68 m) long and 102 ft (31 m) wide. Construction on the fort began in 1801 under the rule of Napoleon Bonaparte, but was only completed in 1857. The fort was used as a military prison after the 1870s. A game show by the same name, filmed on the premises, added to the site's popularity. Choose to start, finish, or center your holiday on a trip to Fort Boyard by using our Fouras trip generator.

  • What to say, except that if the opportunity presents itself, feel free to visit this fort! I find that it imposes less than on TV, but when you know its history, it is natural that tenderness settles
