Built on a naturally protected site, Chateau de Fougeres is on a rock emerging from a swamp surrounded by a loop of the Nançon river acting as a natural moat. It has three different enclosures that were used for defensive purposes, day-to-day use during peacetime, and for the safety of the population during siege times. Visit the impressive 13 towers, and watch an entertaining live show plunging you into the fortress’s construction during the medieval period. A free booklet at the entrance helps you find your way. Chateau de Fougeres Reviews
Fougères es de cuento. El castillo es una pasada, lo vi una vez por internet y juré visitarlo para poder verlo con mis propios ojos. Y no defraudó. Es una construcción inmensa y muy bien cuidada. Data... more »Fougères is story. The castle is amazing, I saw it once on the internet and I swore to visit him to see it with my own eyes. And it did not disappoint. It is a huge and very well maintained. Dating from the 12th and 15th centuries and has more than 2ha of total perimeter is... big boy! I recommend making the visit with an audioguide... will take you a good time if you're going to delight you, it is a pleasant visit although for people with reduced mobility it is perhaps a bit complicated... There are stairs. The place is declared a historic monument and is important in the history of France, not just by the Plantagenet or also Diana of Poitiers, Victor Hugo and Honore de Balzac have some relationship with this lovely place, very well restored.

Built on a rocky outcrop this Castle stands on a large sloped embankment and is surrounded in part by a moat that takes advantage of the difference in elevation of the water to propel the wheels of a mill. It's exciting to take the rampart walk and climb the towers incorporated into the city walls, where you can admire beautiful vistas of the Castle and the town of Fougeres. During the visit are Visual and aural representations that tell the history of the Castle and of his era, including the legend of the fairy Melusine that his body was half woman and half fish with a tail instead of legs.
Great place to visit , interesting views of the water wheel and so much to see as you ramble around the grounds. If you are feeling particularly energetic there are many sections of this chateau that ... more »
Very pleasantly surprised by this chateau. After 2 weeks of exploring Normandy and Loire this was one of our favorite castles and old towns (although I admit that may be in part because it was one of the first we saw). We felt it was definitely worth paying to go in. They have a self guided audio tour. If you're a history buff, you'll love it -- has tons of info. If you're not quite as into history (like me) it's easy to skip ahead at your own pace. Grounds are lovely and the structure impressive.
Tremendous! An amazing place to visit, as is the surrounding town. Can't wait to go back!
Wheelchair access not good. Website makes out there are facilities but there is nothing inside the castle that is accessible other than the courtyards. Disappointed. If you can manage stairs it's a remarkably intact castle and well worth a visit if you want to explore.

Beautiful castle and shops love it so much, so many people just lay on the beach in spain go expore
