Chateau de Foix, Foix
(4.1/5 based on 460+ reviews on the web)
The imposing medieval Chateau de Foix dominates the town from atop a strategic rocky formation. Built in 987 CE and updated in the 15th century, this fortress is well preserved and functions as a museum, featuring collections from the department of Ariège. Sections on prehistoric, Gallo-Roman, and medieval archaeology tell the history of Ariège from ancient times. You can also view exhibits displaying the history of the site and the lives of the Counts at Foix, the most famous of whom was Gaston Fébus, who defied the authority of the king of France by refusing to pay him homage. With our world travel planner, Foix attractions like Chateau de Foix can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • Beautiful castle, the but I found that the Interior of the Castle over object of that time needed, at the time you could see the bones of the mammoth there I think there to go to a museum. This large room or there are these sculptures in stones they would have to put another thing because the tour is quickly made. Superb landscape since the only open Tower

  • A great time with the family stayed at the castle of Foix (grandparents, parents, children of ages 6 and 9). We followed a guided tour that I would absolutely recommend because the castle is not huge, it is not furnished so without comments, it can be disappointing. On the other hand, with the comments, it's very interesting. Our guide to su Captivate its audience and bring back us to the middle ages at the time of Gaston Phoebus, his ancestors and his descendants. Bravo to her. Attention to visitors, it is a medieval castle on the top of a rocky hill. It is difficult to access for people having trouble getting around. Tip marketing for operators of the castle: this is the output (and not the entry) which should be made mandatory through the gift shop (the majority of the sights have understood that long!). This isn't the entry that tourists buy souvenirs but the output. And provide inexpensive medieval objects destined for children because they are seeking souvenirs (swords, crowns, masks,...)

  • Amazing place with fabulous views of Foix. Definitely a place to visit if you are in the town. The history of the Castle is also very fascinating and easily conveyed with a number of modern interactive multilingual displays.
  • Not a very large castle but very well restored, with very good exhibits on construction, weapons and arms. Especially appreciated the reproduction of the medieval hunting book!
  • Beautiful castle with hundreds of years of history. Worth the visit.
  • Its the Grandest Castle that I've ever been to Darling's. Everything was beyond my wildest expectations. Gorgeous Town Loved it.
  • Great fun for the kids, and lovely views.
