Palais Bénédictine, Fecamp

4.4
#1 of 11 in Things to do in Fecamp
The half-Renaissance, half-Gothic Palais Bénédictine embodies the glory of Bénédictine, an herbal liqueur based on brandy. The flamboyant palace is marked by an iconic bell tower. Inside, more than 1,000 volumes transcribed by monks fill the library shelves in the Gothic room. The Renaissance room holds keys from the collection of Alexandre Le Grand that date back to the 14th century. The gallery conducts temporary exhibits of contemporary art, featuring artists like Warhol and Dali. You can book a guided or self-guided tour of the opulent facilities, and sign up for a liqueur tasting. • Like a magnificent fairytale castle with countless pointy towers and delicate facade elements, Palais Bénédictine presents its visitors against an onto a flowered garden. As well as the fascinating exterior of the Palace, also the various huge rooms with their precious artifacts, paintings, sculptures, mosaics, and rare valuable pieces offer an interesting review in the late 19th century. No less interesting in the 2nd part of the building a look into the production of the great Bénédictine liqueur, whose Geschichte back in the 16th century, when Benedictine monks foschten, to establish cures and elixirs of life. Definitely worth a visit - not only for historians.

  • Superb Palace! Only downside, very disappointing visit to the cellars. Guide not to listen to the public. Very rude when we asked questions, with the feeling of really disturbing... Very unfortunate because we would have liked to have constructive information but we dared more questions asked afraid to be ´remballer' in public!

  • Really nice visit and liquor tasting. The inside café is in an amazing closed terrace. The palace and the abbey are really gorgeous. A need to see in Fecamp!!
  • Excellent experience, beautiful surrounding but their product is expensive
  • Interesting but guiding only in French
  • Very nice architecture. A bit corny, but worth a visit. There is a very nice winter garden where you can sit and enjoy the liquor.
  • Beautiful monument and good exhibition venue.
