Chapel Notre-Dame-du-Salut, Fecamp

4.6
#3 of 11 in Things to do in Fecamp
At Chapel Notre-Dame-du-Salut, spend a moment of quiet reflection on those sailors, fishermen, and other ocean-goers lost at sea. Hike or drive up the hill to the small, stout chapel and admire its combination of both Gothic and Romanesque architecture, with origins dating back to the 1300s and several subsequent remodels. Step inside to see the humble interior and unassuming altar. Don't miss the chapel's collection of sea- and boat-themed paintings on display inside. Be sure to bring your camera and take advantage of the panoramic view over the surrounding countryside and sea afforded by the church's hilltop perch. • The chapel is quite small but quite beautiful. Seemed dark at first until I located the switches for the lights! Also while here walk around the WW2 German blockhouse and gun and radar emplacements. B...  more »
  • Little chapel on the heights of beauty Fécamp. Fantastic view on the coast of Alabaster.

  • Nestled in the hollow of the cliffs as many established cities on the coast of Alabaster, Fécamp offers both a framework combining the sea, cliffs, a marina and commercial port and a city full of history and exceptional sites. This set enabled him to get the label of "City of Art and history" in 1992. By the "path to the sailors" once pilgrimage road (departure from the dock Maupassant) you will be taken to the chapel Notre-Dame-du-Hi, maritime landmark and place where sailors came to pray before taking the Sea (votive offerings, offerings...). You will dominate Fécamp, the cliff of downstream, and its beach. You can extend with a ride to Cape Fagnet, impressive! Moreover, it is easy to discover the other walk: the Abbey of the Trinity & the Palace, the Museum and the Benedictine distillery with its "exquisite and digestive liqueur"... and walk on top of water on wooden framing booms the entrance to the port where it is good to hang out... All it takes to relax and enjoy your stay.

  • Beautiful rural church, a place of reflection for locals and foreigners. Protector of sailors. Of great interest is the portion reserved for ex-voto (paintings and depictions of boats in the storm). On the side you can visit a picturesque stretch of the Atlantic wall
