Religious Site
Cathedrale Notre Dame de Evreux is one of the largest and finest cathedrals in France. The first cathedral was built in 1076, but destroyed in 1119 when the town was burned at the orders of Henry I of France to put down the Norman insurrection. He rebuilt the cathedral as an act of atonement to the Pope. Between 1194 and 1198, the conflict between Philippe Auguste and Richard the Lion-hearted damaged the new cathedral. The architecture of the present edifice shows this history, with its blend of Romanesque and Gothic styles. As is common with many areas and buildings of Normandy, this cathedral suffered greatly from the Second World War. • The Cathedral has been partially cleared, with a nice mirror of water and trees on its main portal. The bishopric and its cloister are adjacent, and very pleasant. On the rear, the fortification complement. In fact, it's almost this external harmony I prefer. Its overall appearance is singular because it owes part of its renaissance architecture. Isn't that in 1973 that she enjoyed a restoration complete after the bombardment of 1940. The Cathedral has long waited for his organ. It was installed in 2006, which gives it a modern twist. Partially preserved in a city destroy during the second world war she is sober. His organ is also worth a visit

  • Wonderful Gothic Cathedral at the center of a small town, Evreux. To see! the river beside it, the walls and the Museum offer a beautiful setting.

  • Very nice work by outside than inside. Everything is sober in there, except the new organ, which modern, might be more than one shock. But they fit perfectly in this place steeped in history. Sumptuous façade.
