Blockhaus d'Eperlecques, Eperlecques

4.6
In World War II, the Nazis used thousands of prisoners to build Blockhaus d'Eperlecques, a bunker that now houses a privately owned museum. It was designed it as a launching facility for their V-2 ballistic missiles--capable of holding a hundred missiles and launching about 36 daily--as well as a liquid oxygen factory and a bomb-proof train station for missiles and supplies. Due to repeated bombing by the British and United States air forces, the bunker was never completed. The attacks caused substantial damage and rendered it unusable. Today, the museum presents the history of the site and the V-weapons program. • Breathtaking visit as the building is monumental. Think of all these people forced to participate in this site, under inhuman conditions. The visit is mostly outside so it is better to be beautiful. For people who come with a stroller, the path is perfectly passable but the content of the visit makes it better for children to have a certain age to apprehend certain themes.

  • The Nazi German bunker in northern France, which is the Blockhaus d'Eperlecques, is a remnant of the place where during the SECOND WŚ were working on the V1 and V2 rockets. The bunker is located on the sidelines away from the main transport routes, but with good access and considerable and nice parking for cars, motorhomes and buses. Quite intimate place among the woods, makes not before the entrance to the area of the museum, we do not know what to expect, everything on the side of the parking is obscured by the forest. Tickets for the price of 10 E per adult. As for the main attraction itself, it really makes a lot of impression of this concrete brick-because it is necessary to call it, although in its interior does not contain many attractions, in my opinion it is worth visiting this place. A large plus place speaks of the fact of emerging information in the Polish language on the information boards or film displayed in the center of the bunker. In addition, there are several military vehicles of the era in the complex. Just a perfect place for people interested in the SECOND, or in the area and having some free time.

  • Impressive building but poorly organised. You are expected to join a tour which is not explained at the ticket office. When we bypassed a group of elderly and disabled people a guide remonstrated with us. Not good value for the cost.
  • The actual building, along with the plans for what it could have been, are immense and thank goodness the RAF etc managed to deal with it before it really did serious damage. With a visit if you are interested in all the WW2 stuff.
  • A great museum thoroughly enjoyed my visit a must see
  • Very impressive and thought provoking, well worth a visit.
  • A monumental (literally) insight into German technology and wishful thinking in trying to change the tide of the war. Well worth a visit and with good visitors facility too
