Castle
Chateau de Peyrepertuse is a ruined fortress and one of the five strategically placed Cathar Castles built along the border between France and Spain. Construction began in the 11th century and continued through the 13th century, taking advantage of a high, defensive crag of rock that overlooks the approach road. Look up at the castle from the road, and you'll find it difficult to distinguish the castle from the surrounding rock. It has been on the French Ministry of Culture's Monuments Historiques list since 1908. • After a walk and a small rise (the Castle deserves out, is if you have some physical problems!) which impose to have water with you if you carry them out in full hot sun in summer, the castle is a discovery! Piece of history, it's a noble ruin and even if there is nothing to do in terms of interiors, the panoramic view is sufficient in itself! Summer, a bird show impresses, especially when an Eagle takes your head like perch! If you volunteer, plan a CAP, the Spurs can hurt :)

  • I found this really interesting ruined castle discovery. Whether for its history, its geographical location and surroundings, I advise you to discover this isolated aspect of the Corbières (tell) but that is well worth the visit! The tour is priced at €6 per adult. Then it is reached by a short walk of about 1/4 of an hour, very nice.

  • Cathar Castle, in ruins but uniquely beautiful, the view from the top is mind blowing.

  • Fantastic place! You can park below and walk up in 20 minutes. Need good shoes and not always easy, some difficult steps. Very nice views. Came here the 2nd time and it was still fun. The drive there is also fascinating.
  • Very nice castle, lovely location, a great day out. We went for the medieval festival, we had an amazing time!
  • That it's there at all, is staggering enough. The views stretch onwards the Spanish border.
  • A piece of history in an amazing landscape.
  • Quite a steep walk to get to, but well worth it. Lovely views. My brother loved the falconry show
