Barrage and tidal power Rance, Dinard

4.4
Barrage and tidal power Rance is the world's first tidal power station and also the world's second biggest tidal power station. With a peak rating of 240 megawatts generated by its 24 turbines, it supplies 0.012% of the power demand of France. A canal lock in the west end of the dam permits the passage of 16,000-ton vessels between the English Channel and the Rance. Highway 168 crosses the dam and allows vehicles to travel between Dinard and Saint-Malo, making this a large tourist attraction. There is a drawbridge where the road crosses the lock, which raises allowing larger vessels to pass. Discover how to plan a Dinard trip in just a few steps with Inspirock's itinerary builder.

  • The dam allows to go when there is no passage of boats Dinard in Saint Malo, but also a plant mareemotrice providing electricity to the region. There are few. What for? I remember seeing its construction when I was a kid. Stop on one of the parking lots to have magnificent views of the sea on one side, on the mouth of the Rance of the other side. Both are landscapes are splendid.

  • The ambition that has been required to undertake the construction of this book was great. It's really interesting to look at what has been done.

  • Beautiful and rare example of a tidal power plant that generates clean electricity from renewable sources.

  • The Rance, near Dinard dam, is a concrete construction that dates back to the 1960s and which allows to produce electricity with the tidal force. The building has aged a little, and his visit is interesting. L'Usine maremotrice is still in use and produces electricity for a population of 225000, the equivalent of half the population of Britain. You can also attend the passage of boats in the lock, which allows to pass from the basin to the part and vice versa part.
