Basilique St-Sauveur, Dinan
(4.5/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web)
One of the rare examples of Romanesque architecture in Brittany, Basilique St-Sauveur is a Roman Catholic basilica whose construction was begun in the early 12th century. The imagination of men returning from the Crusades comes alive with beasts including gargoyles carved from marble on exterior columns. Keep an eye out for exotic animals discovered during the Crusades, such as lions and parrots adorning the arches as well as demons tormenting sinners. Be sure to look at the famous 14th century tombstone in the north transept of the famous knight also known as the "Constable of France," Bertrand Du Guesclin.
