Chateau Dampierre, Dampierre-en-Yvelines
(3/5 based on 45 reviews on the web)
In the Vallée de Chevreuse, Chateau Dampierre is a beautiful place for you to explore history and French design of architecture and landscaping. Your experience begins on the outside. Protected behind fine-wrought iron double gates, the main block and its outbuildings, linked by balustrades, are ranged symmetrically around a dry paved and gravel paths. The park, which lost many trees in the storm of December 1999, offers a formal canal and an 18th century garden folly.

Meanwhile, the interiors are lavishly decorated and designed. The grand gallery was reconstructed for the amateur archaeologist and collector, Honoré Théodore Paul Joseph d'Albert, duc de Luynes, under the direction of antiquarian architect Félix Duban. Sculptor Pierre-Charles Simart contributed Hellenic friezes and reliefs for the project as well. • Browsing through the large park of Dampierre, we put its not in those of the Grand Condé, Madame de Longeville, we imagine them conspiring against the royal power. With the Duchess of Chevreuse, the small and the big story mix. It is moving to think that we have the chance to walk around the historical places.

  • Between the 17 and 18th century castle resized by Mansard inspired by the Italian renaissance, in fact one remains the most beautiful of the Chevreuse Valley. The gardens were created by Lenôtre and visiting the Park is very nice.

  • I visited this Castle a few years ago. Living in the area, it was a privileged place to take there my family, my friends. Yesterday, I wanted again visit it with a friend. What amazement when I saw the visit to 12.50 euro tariff. I have therefore renounced. Is what i is a really a desire to share this heritage by applying such rates?

  • Good table located in the magnificent grounds of the Castle but the dining room lacks a bit of heat.
