Vivid pink and orange rocky masses and pinnacles crumble into the blue sea composing Les Calanche Cliffs. Unusual erosion patterns form the rocks and porphyry needles, some of which soar 300 m (980 ft) above the waves. Strange patterns emerge from the constant water and wind erosion forming different figures and animals, the most famous of which is at the north end called the "Tête de Chien" (Dog's Head). Other creatures, include a Moor's head, a bishop, a bear, and a tortoise.

The ancient Cosquer cave that is part of the cliffs is a grotto that is 37 m (120 ft) underwater was once inhabited during the Paleolithic era, when the sea level was much lower than today. Its walls are covered with paintings and engravings dating back to between 27,000 and 19,000 BCE and depicting many terrestrial animals, such as bison, ibex, and horses, as well as sea mammals like seals. • You cannot visit the island without coming to admire this pink lace of rocks falling in a blue sea with the Green and dark pine reflection. On the other hand come early to park on the rare locations refuge along the corniche, which also allows to avoid the bus. Be sure to make the easy hike to the Castle (one hour AR). At the end of the panorama on coves them and Bay is superb. However, plan walking shoes!
