Gorges de la Restonica, Corsica

(4.7/5 based on 320+ reviews on the web)
One of the picturesque highlights of Corsica, Gorges de la Restonica offers you the opportunity to hike, swim, and admire the gorges with numerous pools. The Restonica River flows gently through the low valley past forested pines and river pools providing a refreshing place to cool off. You have two separate hiking trails to choose from--the popular Melo and Capitello Lakes trail and the Monte Rotondo route high above the valley reaching a height of 2,600 m (8,530 ft), which is more rigorous. The splendor and accessibility of the valley makes this a popular place for nature lovers, causing the road to get busy during peak season. Gorges de la Restonica is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Corte Edition.

  • Superb landscapes and possibility of excursion on foot to the Lake Malu, a challenge that is worth addressing. The views are beautiful.

  • Hiking of the Restonica is difficult, but worth the effort when you're finally at the point of arrival, the first Lake for us, because with our couple friends we had a total of 5 children, of all ages, and for them it became tiring and difficult. The departure is in Corte with a small neck to get in the car, car parks are at the end of the pass or indicate you (somewhat dryly!) or you park. This parking (which is paid, plan, € 4 I think) there are already a lot of market to reach finally the true departure from the hike, it is long (more than what is indicated, and difficult for the second half, which is "stepped" all the time, and on stones that are unstable, we meet a lot of people in high season) It is better to leave early. I do not put forward some negatives, but just I think it is good to prevent, it is important for couples with children! For those who are familiar with Corsica, his walks are often steep terrains and nature in the wild, be careful or we put the feet, that's what makes it so beautiful. And even if the two young employees of the Solenzara OT which by the way are adorable, and very helpful, you say "Hiking is easy even with a child, and although this is not the case. In fact I think Corsicans are so accustomed to their island and its nature, to them it sounds simple, while for us poor semi-hikers of the continent, is that it is much less... It's like the roads that are sometimes... dizzying! And in all cases on arrival, the peace of the place have more you want to leave, it is simply beautiful. Then put you well and take picnic there if bobo, but don't deprive yourself of this hike, for my part I remake her, but leaving much sooner to see the second Lake!

  • If you pass to Corte, to absolutely do the throats of Restonica which are at the top in the Valley! about 15km by car from the village who will rotate turns in very tight turns in place, attention at the crossing because there is no crash protection and the rocks on the inside can quickly dent your self... The preservation of the places is more important and the Corsicans are right! The tourists that we don't have to do attention... the Restonica deserves! A stop before the arrived to carry out 4th for the parking lot at the end of the road which in finished more with all these slalom... of seasonal workers are stationed, in full season go early (logical) before 10: 00 if possible, because then it's full quickly and this traffic... leave the site before 17: 00 max because otherwise the descent will be very long and very tiring... We went in the middle of August around 11 and we were 3, we got very lucky to be able to access the car park because remained 1 space available and that there was a child of 3 years, so we were priority the surprise! otherwise it was a half turn at the rest stop and find a place which would be very difficult, it is ' had a lot of people... With the heat of the season it would be quickly transformed into the obstacle course because there was at least 3 see 4km walk to do on the small road before reaching the parking lot then ascension of gorges, with backpacks, our son, cars and camping because coming down, the heat... And it is ' was of the world which could have been in their place, there complaints them... When all upstairs, it's magic! magnificent, splendid Restonica! A seasonal local with a strong accent of Corsica was waiting for ourselves impeccably in the parking lot, royal... and we go to the Gorge, you pass a wooden hut that made snack on a minimum of choice, so do whatever it takes to restore you plan and especially water because it's very hot up there... sunscreen of course... Then a rather easy way on 200 m and then "thickens"... plan of good walking shoes, avoid the sport shoe, tap or open sandals are not permitted! You step on to rocks very slippery with the dust of Earth, damp in place with small streams, we must get support, you are an average mountain do not forget! Your ankles and knees are in great demand. The first Lake named Melo (1711 m), the second Lake of Capitello (1930 m) are within the reach of those who prepare well and again take a pair of hiking shoes if you can and rising semi, if you have children up to 10 years and if they're in shape, you can easily go to the Melo of the parking (1370 m) 341 m D + the Capitello is to do with caution for this age group... For our part, no backpack, so dad is responsible for the mission and we found a small corner of Paradise just before the Melo and we stayed all day! small and large washbasin turquoise just for us with a nice shady area, another family joined us then and we were really good, no regrets of not having been higher, we'll come back is on when our son will be able to climb all up... I hope to have helped you with this story which is attached with a 20aines of photos, the advice I give you are invaluable especially at the level of the equipment (that is sometimes overlooked) and the parking lot, feel free to ask questions and useful if don't you score! Thank you and a great holiday in Corsica! Cedric of Rennes; )
