Foret d'Aitone, Corsica

4.8
#13 of 24 in Nature in Corsica
A leisurely or strenuous hike through the most attractive and aromatic pines in Foret d'Aitone allows you to experience a distinctly Corsican forest overlooking the Gulf of Porto. You can choose from several hiking trails based on the length and ability level you prefer. More than 4,000 hectares (9,880 acres) of beautiful Corsican pines line the trails with many educational panels explaining the local fauna and flora. If you're brave, you can swim in the fresh waters of the natural pools and waterfalls, but be warned that the water temperature rarely climbs above 11 C (51 F). • I enjoyed starting from Cargèse and join the forest of Aitone, via Porto and Evisa. Coves them of Piana change always depending on the time and the light and I can not, enough for the road between Porto and Evisa. With regular stops for pigs and goats that do not meet the lower rated! (I thought that a pig was dead at the edge of pavement in a turn: error he was simply sleeping!) Laricios pines are beautiful, before reaching bright floor below the col de Vergio birches. The fall colors are beautiful through the undergrowth of ferns Eagles. The col de Vergio, I suggest going down, if we have the time to Calaccucia, admire the Monte Cinto and reach Corte the Gorge (Scala Di Santa Regina). Finally we reached Cargèse by the collar and the forest of Vizzavona and Ajaccio. It is a journey that allows a first discovery of Corsica. I advise of course caution: some motorists, familiar of these roads are not always very patient and tolerant to the wheel, this to win in the final seconds.

  • Nice walk from Evisa (path of the chestnut trees), where you can cross pigs and cows! Provide good sneakers or hiking shoes. Unfortunately, coming late August, waterfalls and natural pools have suffered drought and we could not enjoy.
