Chateau de Cormatin
Built in the early 17th century, Chateau de Cormatin boasts many original details including its impressive winding staircases and pristine antique decorations. Gardens, water features, and a wide moat add to the natural flow of the grounds. Battle armaments include turrets, a high-rusticated dungeon, gun ports, and a working drawbridge that will fascinate your and your older children's imaginations. Lavishly decorated quarters invite you to explore the prestigious lifestyle of the nobility. The famous "Gilded Rooms" provide the most authentic and brilliant testimony on the French marquis lifestyle, complete with hand-painted tapestries and refined paintings. Loved the gardens around the castle, we brought our own lunch and had a fantastic view. Because went in lunchtime the castle itself (meaning: the tours) was closed and that meant we had the gardens... more »

Beautiful chateau and garden for a visit and a stroll. Well worth the visit. BUT: The prices in the restaurant are a rip-off compared to what you find on your plate. The staff yet is very friendly... more »

Small and simple restored chateau. Interesting display of the restoration work which is still ongoing in the gardens. A small maze with a central lookout post entertains the little ones. The kitchen garden is also an interesting feature as well as the topiary in the formal garden.

A hidden gem. A bit out of the way but worth the extra kms. Very well preserved castle with amazing ceilings and walls. Wonderful gardens including a boxwood maze. English speaking guide was very good.

Second time I have visited this Chateau. The first time, frustratingly, it was closed for lunch. This time, I got to go inside, and it was well worth it. The tours are in French, but they give you a booklet with descriptions in English (I think there were other languages too). Inside the chateau was really beautiful. The gardens were equally beautiful, with everything in bloom while I was there. I had a very enjoyable afternoon at Chateau de Courmatin!

Our tour was small and had only English speakers, so the tour was conducted in English! Very good, fully furnished home that is a beautiful example of chateaus of the time period. Several rooms were closed to the public due to renovations or them being rented out as apartments, which was disappointing. Thanks to our guide for speaking English for us!
