Trip Planner: Europe / France / Bourgogne-Franche-Comte / Cote d'Or / Commarin / Chateau de Commarin
The Château de Commarin in the commune of Commarin in the Côte-d'Or département, Burgundy, France, has passed through 26 generations in the same family; never sold, though it has often passed through heiresses, Commarin today is a seat of the comte de Vogüé. It has been classed a Monument Historique since 1949.Though the site probably has its origins in a Gallo-Roman villa, Commarin is first mentioned, as a maison forte, in a document of 1214. Its seigneurs were a cadet branch of the seigneurs of Sombernon, from the lineage of the first Dukes of Burgundy. In 1346 Jean and his son Jacques de Cortiamble, chamberlain to Philip the Bold, duke of Burgundy, rebuilt Commarin as a fortified seat; the size and disposition of this moated stronghold established the placement and size of the future rebuildings. The two cylindrical towers with conical roofs date from this rebuilding, and the vaulted chapel. Commarin passed to Agnès de Cortiamble, the elder daughter of Jacques, who brought it as part of her dowry to Jean de Dinteville, seigneur des Chenets. In the 16th century, Commarin underwent radical transformations to render it a modern habitation. The chapel in the east wing was redecorated with sculptures and a terra cotta tomb. A series of heraldic tapestries woven ca 1515-22, in which family armorials of the Dinteville-Pontailler alternate with alchemical symbols remain in the house. A triptych was executed in 1526, with portraits of Girard de Vienne and his lady.Take a look at our Commarin journey builder to schedule your visit to Chateau de Commarin and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

You feel the weight of a long history, there are cracks, doors ill-fitting, short, a castle that lives. Its history is long and fairly provided and rather bucolic Park. On the other hand, we were quite disappointed by the guide, charming but debiting his text to 100 Km/h in a low voice and making us visit a little to no load. Too bad because it a little ruined us the moment. Beautiful pieces on display, among other things, there is the staircase which is pretty impressive for a small house of this size.

It is the visit of the Castle simply "sublime" and the Park is a real gem with beautiful sculptures currently! Here the nobility is all his letters... Bravo for the reception. We were camping car and were able to spend the night in the face of this magnificent House.

Unfortunately the visit of the Castle does not come at your own pace. -This can be visited only with a guide and shoes covers. Take the time to go to the back of the castles to a beautiful point of view. Worth the drive.
Great history location, old castle with a lot of artifacts, beautiful surrounding, must have guided tour
A superb Castle. A very nice visit. Excellent and I recommend taking the tour of the park with the plan and places are splendid. Take your time to enjoy.
Beautiful castle in a good condition, highly recommended. The tour was exclusively in French and it was a no-no to the Mrs in English to talk to us while they could. Eventually we got a slechtvertaalde English manual with which we could read along the tour. But also in French was the tour bad, standard chat without any passion.
A nice tour of the parks to the Castle although this is short unfortunately. Beautiful inlay tapestries and fine furniture fills.
Very nice well maintained Castle. The tour was interesting, although a bit crowded (some parts are small it tightened itself a bit).
