Church Tourist Spot
Another of the five major basilicas of Auvergne, Basilica of Notre-Dame du Port was founded by the bishop of Clermont, Saint Avitus, during the 6th century and was rebuilt in the 11th or 12th centuries after being burned down by the Normans. It is built from arkose sandstone and the building is said to have perfect harmony resulting from the "Golden Ratio" architecture. You can attend mass on Sunday and some weekdays and view some of the finest capitals in Auvergne that depict scenes from the Bible and Psychomachia of Prudentius. • Great!
  • Inescapable, well better proportioned than Orcival, the archose is truly sublime. She does equal game with St. Austremoine which is entirely full colour and neater in decorations. Otherwise I personally found St Saturnin still more "cute".
