Another of the five major basilicas of Auvergne, Basilica of Notre-Dame du Port was founded by the bishop of Clermont, Saint Avitus, during the 6th century and was rebuilt in the 11th or 12th centuries after being burned down by the Normans. It is built from arkose sandstone and the building is said to have perfect harmony resulting from the "Golden Ratio" architecture. You can attend mass on Sunday and some weekdays and view some of the finest capitals in Auvergne that depict scenes from the Bible and Psychomachia of Prudentius. • Located in the area of the port of the historical centre of Clermont-Ferrand, this church is built in pink sandstone and would have been built the number of gold. • This Basilica is located in the historic centre of Clermont. A distinctive feature is the netipičnost′ Church for the region: it is not built of volcanic stone (black), and made of sandstone, i.e. all filled with light. And yet, to get into the Church to go down (!) on the stairs down, not going up.
