Chateau de Breteuil, Choisel

4.5
#2 of 17 in Museums in Yvelines
This charming castle, Chateau de Breteuil, is located in the Chevreuse valley and is a wonderful site to spend day exploring its historical treasures and blooming gardens. Built in the 17th century, the chateau has belonged to the Marquis de Breteuil since 1712. As you wander the halls and rooms, you can view classic pieces of furniture along with 50 waxworks from the Musée Grévin. Meanwhile, the 18th century decoration includes Gobelins tapestries, royal Swedish tableware, and paintings of French kings. The masterpiece of the chateau is the "table de Teschen", encrusted with 128 precious stones.

Outside Chateau de Breteuil, you will find a collection of French and English gardens and mazes, one of which created from 1,000 box plants. If you’re looking for a bit more history, check out the rooms exhibiting the Perrault tales, which reflect everyday life of the past. The visit to the castle of Breteuil starts with the greeting of Mr. le Marquis in person (real, well yes!), continues with a guide exciting (1 h visit), the visit of "common" where the reconstituions more or less animated tales of Perrault (who lived in the Castle) will delight young and old and finally a great storyteller develops 3 tales 1 hour for there also the delight of small and large. Short for less than € 15 on average, a great day. Recommend!

This castle is worth a visit for its history and to rediscover a part of the history of France through the illustrious characters of this family. Visit interesting, including by the owner of the Castle, very courteous and welcoming with its visitors. The visit was enamelled of anecdotes for children, which keeps their interest. Beautiful gardens, remarkable trees.

Despite a high ticket, guided tour of the castle is really interesting: we discover the history of the Breteuil family and this magnificent building very well restored and maintained for 400 years. The Park is very beautiful and allows children to have fun around the tales of Perrault. A very good time.

Spent a wedding there, the lit castle reflecting in the pool was stunning.

Nice spacious park, good for picnics. The maze is good. The fairy tale installations are not aging particularly well.

    Beautiful and peaceful gardens here

After an overpriced visit to the garden, small wiki search suggests that the castle is still owned by the family of Breteuil. Nice way to run the castle by public/touristic money!

Way overpriced for just a walk on the garden while in a middle of a wedding prep. Avoid that Castle!
