Chateau de Cheverny, Cheverny

4.4
Renowned for magnificent interiors and the collection of furniture, tapestries, and objets d'art, Chateau de Cheverny has belonged to the same family for over six centuries. They own a pack of about seventy hunting dogs that live on the grounds, and you can watch them being fed on the live video feed. Guided tours offer added fun as you drive an electric car or boat to discover the grounds. A walk down to the guardroom leads you to a collection of arms and armor, while venturing further brings you to the Chambre du Roi that is richly hung with five Parisian tapestries designed by Simon Vouet to represent the story of Ulysses. Your visit to the castle includes a look at the fictional castle by author and illustrator, Hergé, the creator of the "Adventures of Tintin," who used Cheverny as his inspiration. • If you have time, money, wanted to see all the castles of the Loire, or you're a superfan of Tintin, you shouldn't miss this castle, but it is dispensable. It is nice (more inside that out), but not more than the rest, large and nice but not spectacular gardens, from the outside can not see it, you have to pay the entrance. Beautiful hunting dogs they have at the end of the gardens at the front.

  • The family that still owns Cheverny has maintained the fall deer hunt traditions and keeps 100 French hounds on the property- well treated, totally hygienic, large kennel and support areas, excellent ...  more »
  • Chateau Cheverny is a "must see". Owned by the same family for 600 years, this chateau is still the residence of the family, which is apparent by the tremendous care taken to provide a real and intima...  more »

  • One of the most beautiful Chateau in the Loire Valley. What makes Cheverny unique is it is totally furnished and each room have been renovated exactly as it was. The owners lives in the Chateau and it shows how much they are for it.
  • The best castle for kids that I visited in France so far. Apart from historical items and displays, they also put lego paintings, statues, and others to depict stories so kids can guess. Most importantly, kids were thrilled to watch the feeding time of over 100 hound dogs here. Super duper nice place to visit with kids ans foe dog lovers especially
  • I'm writing this as I line up to go up the stairs of this castle. We lined up to get tickets. Lined up to enter the building. We noticed the line up to enter the forest area which requires an additional cost of 5 Euros. We are now half way up the stairs. The line is not moving as quickly. Just wondering if there is a line up to go down? If you love to line up, this place is amazing. If not, make sure you have something to read. Or just skip it.
  • The castle and garden are very nice. However on weekend there are a lot of people. There is no possible to buy tickets online, so you will need to wait at cash desk for at least 1h.
  • Cheverny is a special chateau with two bonus treats going for it: slightly off the beaten path and quaint little town that goes with it. So nice to get away from the crowds for a bit. Love the hounds! Also enjoyed wine tasting after touring.
