Chateau de Cheverny, Cheverny

4.4
#6 of 80 in Sightseeing in Loire Valley
Castle Tourist Spot
Renowned for magnificent interiors and the collection of furniture, tapestries, and objets d'art, Chateau de Cheverny has belonged to the same family for over six centuries. They own a pack of about seventy hunting dogs that live on the grounds, and you can watch them being fed on the live video feed. Guided tours offer added fun as you drive an electric car or boat to discover the grounds. A walk down to the guardroom leads you to a collection of arms and armor, while venturing further brings you to the Chambre du Roi that is richly hung with five Parisian tapestries designed by Simon Vouet to represent the story of Ulysses. Your visit to the castle includes a look at the fictional castle by author and illustrator, Hergé, the creator of the "Adventures of Tintin," who used Cheverny as his inspiration. By using our Cheverny vacation builder, you can arrange your visit to Chateau de Cheverny and other attractions in Cheverny.

  • Lovely Loire Chateau with lots to see and do. Parking easy and free near the entrance, staff can speak a number of languages which was helpful for the details beyond getting tickets. When we visited t...  more »
  • Coming back from Beauval small stop of 2 hours to see this pretty Castle well furnished and set in a situation. Currently expo of the fables of La Fontaine in Lego bricks: very successful. And also a Tintin exhibition. Do not forget that the castle of Moulinsart, owned by Captain Haddock is the reduced copy of Cheverny

  • Two hours is enough to make a proper tour of the site. Expo temporary LEGO contributed strongly to the attention of children, and the 'soup of the dogs' is not to be missed! Very pretty gardens. A good premise to Chambord, which is next!

  • Cheverny is a special chateau with two bonus treats going for it: slightly off the beaten path and quaint little town that goes with it. So nice to get away from the crowds for a bit. Love the hounds! Also enjoyed wine tasting after touring.
  • One of the best chateaus in the Loire. I would recommend it even over Chenonceau. Make sure you see the dogs in the kennels and go to the Tintin museum if you have kids.
  • Beautiful castle with a large domain that make feel you like Tintin. On Sunday we saw dogs for hunting and cosplay people walking around. Staff of the castle are really kind However the drive by electric car and the boat is not worth it.
  • Super fun. House is more "modern" and a family lives there. Great place for kids because 3xs a week they feed the 100+ hunting hounds and that is a sight to behold! Nice break for kids who are being dragged from Chateau to Chateau.
  • Great experience, we loved the brochure provided: it gives interesting small stories. The hunt dogs are a weird experience, those dog are really violent with each other and all caged in a small area.
