Chateau de Cheverny, Cheverny

(4.4/5 based on 2,000+ reviews on the web)
Renowned for magnificent interiors and the collection of furniture, tapestries, and objets d'art, Chateau de Cheverny has belonged to the same family for over six centuries. They own a pack of about seventy hunting dogs that live on the grounds, and you can watch them being fed on the live video feed. Guided tours offer added fun as you drive an electric car or boat to discover the grounds. A walk down to the guardroom leads you to a collection of arms and armor, while venturing further brings you to the Chambre du Roi that is richly hung with five Parisian tapestries designed by Simon Vouet to represent the story of Ulysses. Your visit to the castle includes a look at the fictional castle by author and illustrator, Hergé, the creator of the "Adventures of Tintin," who used Cheverny as his inspiration. By using our Cheverny vacation builder, you can arrange your visit to Chateau de Cheverny and other attractions in Cheverny.

  • If you like Tintin, it is the castle that inspired Hergé to draw Moulinsart. Inside the castle is quite common in others. The Tintin exhibition is worth a visit!

  • For this Tuesday, February 7, new visit to the castle of Cheverny, honestly it is the right time to make the castles of the Loire, certainly it is not the sweetness of spring to enjoy more of the Park, but whatever, the soul of the castles is inside! Visit free, well documented and arrow and especially almost only! Barely a dozen people crossed along the way, here you can really visit and linger. Park and garden of the always beautiful orangerie, the kennel and his large Pack of dogs hunting, also alive and in motion, then expo Tintin always. Passage through the well-stocked shop, in short a beautiful castle in a beautiful frame.

  • Loved the Tintin exhibition, very clever and realistic settings. The chateau and its interiors are very well maintained. I enjoyed my visit to the chateau, but don't feel it's quite at the level of some other chateaus. However, it's definitely a must-visit for Tintin fans, and for people who enjoy magnificent interiors and furnitures.
  • This was the ONLY one of a planned 6 Chateau tour that we managed to visit as the others were inaccessable due to floods. Cheverney didnt disappoint from the shop at the entrance to the lovely Chateau, stately grounds and all those barking hounds It was really most impressive and interesting and thank goodness we managed at least visiting one of them in the Lore Valley as it was a long way from downunder. Do visit and enjoy, the family still live there so its not a museum
  • Nice gardens and good preservation. Picnic area available. Electric cars.
  • Lovely little homely chateau, nicely manicured garden plus a heap of hunting dogs on the grounds
  • Delightful. Plush château set in a regal landscape. The Tintin interactive exhibit is a must for any fan of this beloved European comic. Don't forget to visit the hounds in the kennel by the lush gardens (just don't excite them).
