Chateau de Cheverny, Cheverny

4.4
Renowned for magnificent interiors and the collection of furniture, tapestries, and objets d'art, Chateau de Cheverny has belonged to the same family for over six centuries. They own a pack of about seventy hunting dogs that live on the grounds, and you can watch them being fed on the live video feed. Guided tours offer added fun as you drive an electric car or boat to discover the grounds. A walk down to the guardroom leads you to a collection of arms and armor, while venturing further brings you to the Chambre du Roi that is richly hung with five Parisian tapestries designed by Simon Vouet to represent the story of Ulysses. Your visit to the castle includes a look at the fictional castle by author and illustrator, Hergé, the creator of the "Adventures of Tintin," who used Cheverny as his inspiration. • This castle was included on my castles tour and my friends and I agreed that it was the worst. The interior just doesn’t feel authentic. I was excited to see the hunting dogs, but their “quarters” loo...  more »
  • The Kennel is disastrous. Especially for children not a pretty sight. Castle is heated. From November to March there are snacks, mulled wine; in the trophy room Café hot chocolate etc.

  • Although the castle is still inhabited by the owners, which does not have attractions, it must recognize that accessible parts are already beautiful and worth a visit. This rich decoration allows you to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the place, reinforced by the courteous and smiling staff welcome and pictures of wedding of the heir to the places blessed. We see it well and we're having a very good time!

  • Cosy doesn't normally come to mind when describing a château but our experience on a cold wet winters day was one of viewing a comfortable well loved house and home. Delightful. The owners who we were told occupy one wing have done an exceptional job in preserving and showing the house and its contents. Bravo!
  • Awesome chateau, beautiful grounds. The staff are super friendly and keen for you to enjoy yourself. The rooms are sumptuously decorated. So divine!!!
  • Cool visit, lots of interesting furniture and rooms with history. Certainly one of the top 5 for me in the Loire region
  • A much more peaceful and expansive energy at Chateau De Cheverny. This castle is restored and beautifully preserved. Each room is furnished giving an idea of what it would be like to live in and what the rooms are used for. The grounds a wonderful to walk in and there are many places to sit and take in the wonderful nature vistas. Be sure to visit the fantastic abundant kitchen garden, see the hunting dogs, and the black swans!
  • Me and my wife loved it. The lands were purchased by Henri Hurault, comte de Cheverny, a lieutenant-general and military treasurer for Louis XIII, whose descendant, the Marquis de Vibraye, is the present owner. The Belgian comic book creator Hergéused Cheverny as a model for his fictional "Château de Moulinsart" (Marlinspike Hall in English) in the Adventures of Tintin books.[2] In these books, the two outermost wings are not present, but the remaining central tower and two wings are almost identical.
