Mort-Homme is a commune in the Meuse department located in Lorraine. The site was used during the Battle of Verdun that took place in 1916. It has been unoccupied since then. The site, however, has a quaint presence which manages to captivate you at the very first glance. The huge landscape around the commune is also a noteworthy site because of the vastness that is spread far across. Today, the whole site is being maintained as a testimony to the war that took place. It has been officially designated as a village that died for France. A three-member municipal council appointed by the Meuse department manages the site today. From all the places I was this was not a really special one (not historically speaking). But what is impressive is how much duds (Blindgänger) are lying around there. So if you walk around offroad be sure to look where you walk.

The memorial of the dead man was erected in honor of fallen soldiers. This statue of the fallen soldier who victoriously leaves his shroud commemorates the sacrifices made by the French soldiers for keeping this hill on the left bank of the Meuse. The monument on the summit next to the height of Toter Mann reminds that 10,000 French soldiers were killed here. The inscription ILS NONT PAS PASSE - you couldn't get through reminds of the bitter struggle. We recommend !
