Le Refuge de l'Arche, Chateau-Gontier

4.4
The tenuous relationship between humans and nature finds balance at Le Refuge de l'Arche, where injured or ill wild animals are treated before being released back into the wild. Some animals stay for the remainder of their lives and can been seen from viewing terraces. The reconstructed habitats are spacious and do their best to emulate natural environments, so animals are well-prepared to reenter their wild homes. You’ll see a large variety of animals, from lions to cows. The refuge accepts most creatures: exotic pets, retired circus animals, aged farm animals, or injured wild birds. The only exceptions are cats and dogs. Put Le Refuge de l'Arche on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Chateau-Gontier road trip tool .

  • Good family day, more bears, what a pity. But having such a site on Château Gonthier is a chance, the evidence the Park expands!

  • Been here before in the height of summer, this time it was Autumn and not too hot. Lot of animals inside their houses. This is a very hilly zoo, not too good for people with problems walking. Large ex...  more »
  • We went to the zoo with your family for an afternoon. We have lunch on tables outside the site. What is significant. The Park is really nice with arrow courses that easily allow us to make the tour of the site. It is important, however, noted that there is in the Park an important Elevation and that if you have problems to move this to be difficult. Otherwise, beautiful animals. Unfortunately the Park lacks a little maintenance, what you understand easily knowing quil is maintained by donations.

  • What a lovely place. Rescued animals on the road to recovery and a better life. Don't expect a zoo type place with animals putting on shows as this isn t that at all. One down side during our visit was the restaurant was closed for the week
  • Brilliant place . Took kids last year . They loved it .Taking brother and his family this year .
  • Good for the afternoon. May become a full fledged zoo after the early 2017 renovation, already has a lot of species. This place specializes in welcoming abandoned animals, or exotic animals in need of a home after their circus / zoo has closed.
  • Super! This is not a zoo, but a refuge. Opportunity to feed the animals. We come out with another idea of zoos because many of their animals come. To make and remake. For the kids too.

  • Ethical and responsible animal park. The animals are recovered from illegal and/or unscrupulous owners. The interaction between the visitor and the animal is more live! As a family, it's an opportunity to have a good day and to sensitize children to the well-being and respect for the most common to the most exotic animals. To see absolutely.
