Le Refuge de l'Arche, Chateau-Gontier
(4.6/5 based on 110+ reviews on the web)
The tenuous relationship between humans and nature finds balance at Le Refuge de l'Arche, where injured or ill wild animals are treated before being released back into the wild. Some animals stay for the remainder of their lives and can been seen from viewing terraces. The reconstructed habitats are spacious and do their best to emulate natural environments, so animals are well-prepared to reenter their wild homes. You’ll see a large variety of animals, from lions to cows. The refuge accepts most creatures: exotic pets, retired circus animals, aged farm animals, or injured wild birds. The only exceptions are cats and dogs. • Good news from the entry with a more than reasonable price. In addition it is greeted with a smile. We start the tour in an Aviary or some birds are free. We never saw Heron so close! A layout with a waterfall, a little... poetic bridge. We are in the live atmosphere. Buzzards, owls, owls, baboons, wolves (visible!) bear, lion, Tiger, leopard, kangaroo... The pens are well maintained, we feel the attentive care given to the animals. Pampered residents, a human dimension that changes everything, compared to other zoos. Games for children, clean toilets, spaces for lunch with a microwave available. Small detail: not found in table changing to change our baby... but we didn't not long. Are there?

  • We (re) discovered the Refuge of the Arch on a sunny Saturday afternoon. It was nice to walk on this site with all the different species of animals. We enjoyed the island with the monkeys and the Observatory to see them interact with each other. This site is special, this isn't a zoo but a refuge for animals collected by the association. The entry price and the store allow the maintenance of the Park and the feeding of the animals. A refresh is necessary for some pens, but the association does its best with its means (we do what we can with what we have). Bravo and luck to the team.

  • This is my 1st visit. Not disappointed. Very nice Park. Healers are super nice. My niece had a questionnaire on a loom, the staff was cool with it. The teens loved the Park. They had a good laugh with the geese running after them.

  • This small zoo is very nice: shady, quiet, clean, it is full of animals despite the fact that it is only a refuge. It's always slope: it goes up or it goes down! Large play area and small cafeteria at the end of the visit. 10 euros only entry, a real plus.

  • This is not a Zoo, it's an animal shelter which collects animal éclopés of life and human stupidity. Visit family, a children's corner is particularly well developed

  • All kinds of animals are cared for in this shelter, exemplary. They are little darlings, and receive lots of love of trainers. Bravo!
