Le Refuge de l'Arche, Chateau-Gontier

4.4
#2 of 25 in Things to do in Mayenne
The tenuous relationship between humans and nature finds balance at Le Refuge de l'Arche, where injured or ill wild animals are treated before being released back into the wild. Some animals stay for the remainder of their lives and can been seen from viewing terraces. The reconstructed habitats are spacious and do their best to emulate natural environments, so animals are well-prepared to reenter their wild homes. You’ll see a large variety of animals, from lions to cows. The refuge accepts most creatures: exotic pets, retired circus animals, aged farm animals, or injured wild birds. The only exceptions are cats and dogs. Very nice to stroll through the aisles of the refuge of the Ark, to spend some time to search for a hidden animal. The refuge is not a zoo where the animals are crammed one on top the other, but a place where they have the space they deserve. We visited this place by 35 ° and were well happy to have trees to protect us from the Sun.

I agree with mimode49 message of August 12. And side games we when we are go with 2 small 10 and 5 years we couldn't access the games of adults (adults) were all games (6adultes excited) the shelter staff saw them but they were told nothing, it's because of freaks like that that games are broken. And more alleys are dirty. Damage

A place worth visiting. Many animals for entry to 11 euros. For each animal a sign with the name and the history of the animal. We can feed the animals with popcorn.

What a lovely place. Rescued animals on the road to recovery and a better life. Don't expect a zoo type place with animals putting on shows as this isn t that at all. One down side during our visit was the restaurant was closed for the week

Good for the afternoon. May become a full fledged zoo after the early 2017 renovation, already has a lot of species. This place specializes in welcoming abandoned animals, or exotic animals in need of a home after their circus / zoo has closed.

Super! This is not a zoo, but a refuge. Opportunity to feed the animals. We come out with another idea of zoos because many of their animals come. To make and remake. For the kids too.

Ethical and responsible animal park. The animals are recovered from illegal and/or unscrupulous owners. The interaction between the visitor and the animal is more live! As a family, it's an opportunity to have a good day and to sensitize children to the well-being and respect for the most common to the most exotic animals. To see absolutely.
