Discover the ancient and contemporary art of stained glass at Centre international du Vitrail de Chartres. The colorful small collection has explanations of the methods used as well as the historical background of the pieces. The basement exhibition of modern stained glass contrasts with historic styles found in area cathedrals. Virtually unchanged since the 16th century, this center features eternal manufacturing methods used to create flat panes of glass. Watch artisans to learn how people throughout history, and today, cut, set, and solder glass to make windows. • Very interesting collection.
  • The visit is nice, but on the other hand the price is excessive! Frankly, the documentary it's interesting, it's too long! Of course, we want to understand how we built a stained glass window, but watch the steps for 3 minutes each time, it sucks! Explain the steps better and more quickly, the ONISEP has apparently teaching limits! We spent an hour and a half in the Center, I loved the contemporary stained glass windows, those restored, much less those on paper because they are used only for addicts in history! "Bring in visitors at 5:30 so that we close at 6 pm and told them ' I'm closing in 30 minutes", it sucks! They will not have time to see the stained glass so to refuse entries after 5 p.m. a minimum! In short, a mixed review!

  • What a disappointment this Museum! Say that we were coming to Chartres for this! The ground floor dedicated to the middle ages won't teach you anything about the history of Glaziers, or their techniques (or hardly), nor on their art. The visit is just a sequence of panels photos enlarged stained glass windows of the Cathedral about which of the tedious laius to read (we give up fast) explained the characters and what they do. We find it on the internet... You learn nothing. The modern stained glass windows in the basement space is more interesting. A series of stained glass windows, declining the theme of a red rose can see different 'technical' but she are appointed by really explained. And for the rest, a circular route that exposes "arrays" in glass, some really beautiful, others, but this is a subjective matter. For 2 x 7 ticket euros, you can find to buy at the entrance of the books that will tell you a lot more on glassware and stained glass art. Too bad...
