Lac de Gaube, Cauterets
(4.8/5 based on 460+ reviews on the web)
The turquoise-blue waters of Lac de Gaube are surrounded by intensely beautiful Pyrenean peaks over 2,000 m (6,560 ft) above sea level. Getting to the lake is an adventure in itself. First, park your car in the free parking lot, then ride the green cable car from Puntas to the Clot plateau. Next, ride the chairlift up to the lake. If you prefer to walk, hike for an hour on the trail that starts at the foot of the bridge. The trail is also enjoyable by horseback; horse rentals are available in town. The top end of the valley leading to the lake is closed off by the north face of Vignemale, the culmination of France's border with Spain. • a must see. Easy hike; 2 opportunities the chairlift and then 15 minutes flat or a bold feet small by the GR, 1 hour about without difficulty if that's goes on is climbing; halfway you'll discover inside the vignemale. For the more adventurous there is possibility to the Lake (right bank) and continue to the refuge of the staffs winter on snowshoes by the GR even hike to the Lake; need to ensure before risk or no avalanche arm you to a camera because it is common to see the izards

  • Gone for a hike of 3 days, we slept at the hut of the Pinet which is just upstream from the Lake. The view of the Lake is quite magnificent, just 45 minutes from the bridge of Spain, lies in nature. The cabin is also well maintained. However, that's it, everything is covered with snow for a week! I recommend!
