Lac de Gaube, Cauterets
Categories: Lookouts, Bodies of Water, Nature & Parks, Tourist Spots
The turquoise-blue waters of Lac de Gaube are surrounded by intensely beautiful Pyrenean peaks over 2,000 m (6,560 ft) above sea level. Getting to the lake is an adventure in itself. First, park your car in the free parking lot, then ride the green cable car from Puntas to the Clot plateau. Next, ride the chairlift up to the lake. If you prefer to walk, hike for an hour on the trail that starts at the foot of the bridge. The trail is also enjoyable by horseback; horse rentals are available in town. The top end of the valley leading to the lake is closed off by the north face of Vignemale, the culmination of France's border with Spain.
