Trip Planner: Europe / France / Nouvelle-Aquitaine / Dordogne / Castelnaud-la-Chapelle / Chateau des Milandes
In 1489, Chateau des Milandes was the main residence for the lords of Caumont. Today, it is best known as the former home of entertainer Josephine Baker, who restored this "Sleeping Beauty" castle in the late 1940s. Tour parts of the castle for a glimpse into Baker's intriguing life, walk through the bucolic gardens, or take in a Birds of Prey show that features some of the best fliers in the castle's falconry. Falconers present us their residents very closely and their explanations are very interesting. The gardens are beautiful and pleasant. Experience in the Aviary with the parakeets is very interesting. Morning other activities are also offered for children (workshop falconry, feeding exotic birds), raptors and gardens justify a visit alone. Only downside, the remains: the castle is rather a large remains only a castle and presents little interest at this level then, many facilities made current 20th century having removed the history of the building only interest is the aspect remains of Josephine Becker: dress, held scene, photos,... but that will interest those who.

Josephine Baker's former home with really evocative exhibits about her life. The Château is a refreshing change from medieval warfare and caves and really deserves half a day. The falconry show is the best in the area, the gardens are beautiful at different times of the year. I've been in spring, summer and autumn.Good quality food at a fair price, descent children's play area, friendly welcoming staff. It's worth looking out for musical theatre nights.

Really beautiful château with a great history attached. Very interesting well laid out tour. The grounds are beautiful and the birds of prey show is fantastic.

This is a fascinating place. The chateau has been excellently restored by the current owners (the new oakwork is a particular highlight). However the real treat comes when learning about its previous owner, Josephine Baker. She was a remarkable woman. To know more, you have to visit!

Beautiful place with a very interesting story behind it. Joséphine Baker is who makes this place. She really has left a big impression. The castle for sure deserves a visit if you're in the area. Bird show is spectacular. The food was somewhat disappointing.

I had a chance to get acquainted with a life of Josephine Baker who lived in this castle. They also have a bird show at the back yard of the castle, which can be prety interesting.
