In 1489, Chateau des Milandes was the main residence for the lords of Caumont. Today, it is best known as the former home of entertainer Josephine Baker, who restored this "Sleeping Beauty" castle in the late 1940s. Tour parts of the castle for a glimpse into Baker's intriguing life, walk through the bucolic gardens, or take in a Birds of Prey show that features some of the best fliers in the castle's falconry. • We had a very good time, for our smaller, she participated in the games of the princesses and falconers with the owner of the Castle who was dressed with a dress d time, our daughter Deborah loved this special moment in the cellar of the Castle where she discovered many things about the raptors, but also everything you need to become fauconnier.le show with the raptors was great with explanations very accurate and beautiful animals. Regarding the visit of the Castle from the historical point of view and the narrative of the life of Joséphine Baker through memories, photos, dresses, archives... we really been amazed already before knowing the life of this artist. Madam, we understand how you're involved in the sustainability of this place and your personal investment is felt in the fun that we had to check out this site. We also liked the fact you wouldn't have bought the authentic piano in the lounge which had been bought at the time for a pittance during the auction of the assets of the late Josephine. Keep this in mind, we strongly advise to our loved ones when they are passing in the Dordogne, d you go visit. Thank you and good luck in this great adventure.

  • The Castle and its exteriors are splendid. The bird show is worth seeing. We must continue to visit the gardens at the foot and we fall on aviaries, opportunities to be in direct contact with the birds. Great for kids.

  • This is a fascinating place. The chateau has been excellently restored by the current owners (the new oakwork is a particular highlight). However the real treat comes when learning about its previous owner, Josephine Baker. She was a remarkable woman. To know more, you have to visit!
  • Very good. Mostly wheelchair accessible. Learned about Josephine Baker and also that Grace Kelly was a good person.
  • Beautiful castle. The story about Josephine Baker is great!
  • A great day out...something for everyone.
  • Lovely chateau on the outside and I was pleasantly surprised by the story of the owner inside. Josephine Baker was a rockstar and a thinker ahead of her times. Throughout my time there, I really gained an appreciation of her and I enjoyed learning about her - I'd never heard of her before then. Rooms were amazing, especially the bathrooms. Photos not allowed inside the house. I wish the postcard selection had been better - I wanted to take away a reproduction of one of the cool photos or posters in the house but there weren't any good ones and the jpg print quality was poor. Sat in on the falconry display as well. It was mostly in French so I didn't really understand what they were saying, but the birds were cool, and it was really interesting. The gardens are beautiful. It was a very enjoyable visit
