Where to stay in Sarlat-la-Caneda

Chances are good that if you stay in Sarlat-la-Caneda, you'll be housed in a historical building. Many hotels and other lodgings in this medieval capital are in old mansions and structures that have existed for many centuries. While the range of choices does include a few more modern hotels, most are beautiful family-owned spots where you might expect to eat meals with the owners. It's hard to go wrong in terms of location, but staying close to the historical center is best. Also, take note that hotels in this region tend to fill up quickly in the summer, so be sure to book before you arrive.

  • Being locals, we have visited this garden several times. Watching the business grow and develop into the utterly amazing place that it is now has been wonderful. The gardens are utterly gorgeous and the animal life - frogs, and spectacular fish - will delight any children. That said there is plenty for adult visitors to enjoy. The design is a joy and every corner has something to offer. A water gardens connoseur will not be disappointed. This is the work of experts with a passion. The lillies are amazing, the bridges are lovely and the secret bamboo rooms are cool and inspiring.
  • Beautifully landscaped tranquil setting with 60 different varieties of water lily and lotus flower. Well worth a visit
  • Wonderful water gardens and huge selection of water lilies well worth a visit
  • The gardens are very beautiful, and the signs are all translated, which is helpful. However the fountains in the labyrinth are controlled via an app that you can download. In practice this didn't work for me as I couldn't find their WiFi password, and therefore couldn't get the app. This meant that many of the fountains were turned off, and I had no means to turn them on, meaning the gardens were not as spectacular as they could have been. Thanks for a great visit and cycle ride along the green route.
  • Fantastic garden with water theme. Even in 36 degrees heat we could enjoy the lotuses and other flowers. It was a good size and felt like a luxury and something very special to see. The bamboo forest was a welcome place to cool off.
