  • Somehow, Saint-Michel has made little impression than St. Vincent. Although, of course, a good Church-beautiful stained glass, interesting altars.

  • A surprising combination of styles. The juxtaposition of the novel and the Gothic remains harmonious. Impressive stained glass. By what phenomenon makes too hot in this church while one would expect to freshness in this type of building.?

  • The Cathedral of Saint-Michel de Carcassonne is a building of Gothic style in the 13th century, which was built by order of King Luis IX of France. The Cathedral was impaired in the incendiod and the Bastide of Saint Louis by the troops of the Black Prince in 1355 and to rebuild it were added to fortified parts, so was the tower with military aspect that is on the side of the apse was built. In 1803 was transferred the episcopal see becoming the new Cathedral of Carcassonne. It has beautiful stained glass windows of colors that would be from the 14th century. It is interesting to visit the Church with a tour guide (you offer a guided tour by Carcassonne Tourist Office included in the tourist pass of the city), that can learn a lot about the history of this city and this building, and its intricate relationship with the religious movement of the Cathars (or albingenses) that were very strong in the city and were very well connected politically with the site authorities , but they were attacked by the official Roman Apostolic Catholic Church of the time, which declared them heretics.

Where to stay in Carcassonne

Although the picturesque La Cite is a tempting place to stay, consider the quieter and more affordable La Bastide Saint Louis down the hill. La Bastide provides easy access by foot to the walled La Cite for daily tours and peace and quiet after dark.
